torn flex section on y pipe
well i looked under my car the other day and noticed that the flex section on my y pipe is ripped a bit, will this affect performance? I notice she now sorta sputters going from a dead stop...

You SHOULD replace it.

it wont really affect performance, its after the front o2s so it wont throw off there reading. It would just make your car loud, and maybe a little funky if there is a leak and exhaust gases are escaping thru there.

Actually after driving around with multiple leaks on my cattman Y, I can saw a leaky flex WILL affect performance. Particularly the low end torque. After getting a shop to replace my cattman flex twice, I finally figured out it was the damned short flex that breaks. I custom did a longer flex and had no problems since.

A leak reduces the exhaust gas velocities and hurts the scavanging effects of having high velocity exhaust gases pulling the exhuast behind it. It's why a leak that's at the exhaust manifild flange is the worst power killer. As you get closer to the engine, exhaust leaks hurt performance more. As you get leaks down the line, they hurt the performance less. ie.. leaky muffler

then I might pick up a little from my leak at the rear beam
Given the location of his leak, would it cause such a performance loss that he can feel some sputtering?

Sorry to hijack this post, but I have a similar suspected problem. After a fair amount of driving, I'll notice that my foot is getting extremely hot when I'm on the gas. While I can fix it with the AC, I'm worried that it might be cooking the ECU. Would a leak in or around the flex cause this? Visually, the flex is fine, and it's a stock y-pipe.

Sorry to get sorta off topic but to the OP did you notice a weird noise kinda like bees in the can noise that is coming from before the cat b/c it has the precat smell to it. I have a WP Y and cant figure out where it is coming from.
