Trying to make my car safer
As you know I previosly mentioned that the 1995 &1996 4th gen max and i30performed poorly in the govt crash tests.
I am still upgrading my car to be safer since I will be driving it for a long time to come.
I pulled the front seats and found the slider is attached in the front of the seat with cheap rivets. We welded the slider to the seat bracket to fix this problem. Then we found the floor brackets on the outer door sides tack welded to the floor sheet metal so we welded this and fixed this problem. Finally I used 10-9 bolts to scew seats to floor.
Next , to protect my driver side door in case someone t-bones me I had a bar welded from the halo bar between the door and front seat and run forward in a lower position where a car or truck bumper would most likely hit the door. The roll bar builder said to keep it lower so it wouldn't crush the side of my chest.
The bar continues forward to the base of the kick panel where it is welded to a top plate and bolted to a lower plate under the car. Now I have this lower bar and the main halo to help stop a car from intruding into the drivers compartment.
Another thing they told me was if you're driving alone slide the passenger seat far forward because after reinforcing the seat this will act as a buffer if hit on the passenger side.

Kind of OT but did you put in a fuel cell when you had that incident a couple of weeks ago? And if so which one? Lastly did you cut out the wheel well in the trunk? And if so what sheet metal did you use?

I didn't cut out my wheel well, I just whacked it in where it got in my way.
