Nacht, dont buy injen. Good company, bad intake. Get one off of ebay. I wouldnt worry about the CAI, I live in FL with heavy heavy storms, and Ive never worried about it. Front strut bars dont have the effect most people think. Good mods to get: Y pipe, Coilovers(in my opinion, skip struts and springs), Rear Sway Bar, 00vi. Its all up to you. Keep lookin around and read up as it looks like you have been doing. You'll get the ideas fast enough...Oh, and Welcome! Dont let the haters bash you around...haha.

anam, Have you checked the bearing or CV? I though the bearing noise might go away after heating up, but Im not sure, so that might be it. Just listing some things to check up front.

Stay way from the Injen and get a PR CAI Knock off from eBay (30$). When/before you purchase, make certain it is the type that requires you to drill a hole in the fender prior to installation.

Unless you plan on driving through rivers and revving your engine, you should be fine.

If I were you, I'd upgrade the suspension prior to any engine modifications. RSB/springs/struts/FSTB. Check the group deal forums for sales on various suspension components.

Stay away from catbacks, as all they add is noise. If you really want power get an equal length header and y-pipe system. If money's tight, get an aftermarket y-pipe.

I would try eBay and ask the seller &/or go over the instructions before purchasing.

Battery/Alternator problem?

Recently here in Wisconsin (Madison to be specific) we've had a large amount of rain for nearly 1.5 weeks with high humidity. Roughly 5 days ago the stereo on my car began having issues. It would play cds, would sound fine, and the radio worked. I could change the volume and turn it off/on as well. However, I could not change tracks, change radio stations, adjust equalizer settings etc.

Today it went away, but a new problem arose. Now my ABS and and traction control lights come on and the lights dim a bit. I'm thinking either the humidity and rain caused a short in a wire (I have underground parking but parked outside one night) and is draining the battery or my alternator is going. Has anyone experienced this before? Also, the ABS and traction lights don't come on until after a few minutes of driving, and when they do my stereo no longer has any sound. Most bizarre.

Edit: 1999 Maxima GLE ~89,000 mi.

I just picked up a 96 Maxima with 216k miles on the clock for my son and I'm trying to work the bugs out before he hits the road. I noticed this morning that there is a loud rattling noise coming from the front right side of the car. It happens when I hit dips in the road. Also some sqeeking from both front sides. The car does not ride as if it is in need of new shocks/struts.
Is what I'm hearing symptoms of worn out struts, or could it be something else?

I had a question regarding TOWER strut bars. I've read on it and through many other forums regarding it. Do you install it with the car lifted up or do you just do it as is?

Does installing a rear do anything?

I've googled and looked on eBay but I didn't find anything aside form the generic eBay one. Any recommendations? I don't feel like dropping a lot on it either like a catmann.

DRL on driver side keeps going out

I have a '95 Maxima; with the headlights off, the daytime running lights come on as expected then the driver side goes off and the intensity on the passenger side increases.

Would appreciate any advice as to how to remedy.

Check ur lower control arm bushings, use the free search tab above to find many references on this---good luck. May also be an upper strut mount, wheel bearing, springs- please b more descriptive of sound is it a clicking or is the rattling more of a creaking?

I am a noobie: I've read a lot of stuff that sounds like problem I'm having but nothing about strong odor of burning plastic! My '99 is misfiring (pretty significant, the car 'lurches') - only at idle - and acceleration is poor; feels like it'll barely climb a hill. Happens only when engine is hot. I smell the burning plastic every time I stop even if no misfiring that drive. BTW I've changed plugs and fuel filter recently (but not before this problem began). Any ideas?? THANKS!

Don't waste your time on a rear strut tower bar, they don't do very much... A read sway bar on the other hand stiffens up the rear well. For the front strut bar you can do it with the car on the ground, they are easy to put in too... stillen makes a strut tower bar, look in the group deals buddy

Stereo Problems

An update from my above post, the shop replaced the alternator and battery and seems to be working fine overall. However, I still cannot use any functionality of my stereo except playing cds, ejecting them, and changing the volume. This means that I cannot change tracks, seek, change radio stations, adjust the equalizer, etc. This is on a 99 Maxima with a new battery/alternator that checked out. What could be wrong?

Thanks.

Silicon works. I peeled back that rubber strip and applied it under that.

I was looking for suggestions and or reviews on the pieces that i've found and if you know of higher performance pieces than please let me know.

For $279.99 an Injen RD Cold Air Intake. I see a lot of people have Place Racing CAI's, but I cannot find them online. For aesthetics i'm going to be 30% tinting my back windows and rear windshield, changing all the lighting inside to blue LEDS (guages, courtesy lights, dome light, etc.), any other suggestions??

Thanks.
Place racing style CAI off of ebay paired with a K&N filter and the stock mid-pipe is the best route IMO unless you're going to stay stock. Cheap and easy to install, as long as you have a hole saw handy. As for the cat-back, I have an SP2 myself and am very pleased with it. Easy to install, though the gaskets it comes with aren't great. Replace them with gaskets from the dealer, and you're golden. You can also find that elsewhere for cheaper than $570. Research as much as you can and good luck.

My huge BATTERY DILEMA....
for the past month my car has been sitting in my driveway not being driven (i was on vacation) so i came back home and i notice that its not starting as well as it used to... it didnt start once on me so i called AAA and they jumpstarted it for me and told me i need a new battery,

so i kept that in mind and kept driving the car...

then this morning my brother goes to move my car and it didnt start on him either, so he jump started the car himself and somehow managed to mess my car up even more... from what he tells me he connected the jumper cables to my moms 2004 4Runner then he connected them directly to my 1997 infinity i30 battery, all in the correct (+/-) terminals... and then he went to start my car and it wouldnt start... and he kept trying and trying, about 5 times... and still nothing... so i went to auto zone, they said my old battery was bad and i bought a new one, came home replaced it and NOTHING!

what could have been blown out or set off? is it a small easily replaced sensor or is it one of those 100 dollar under the engine sensors... i need help... please...

Vlsd Or No Vlsd?

Im in the market for a new manual (w/vlsd if economically feasable) for my 99 se, and think I may have found one at a good price. The thing is, the guy with the tranny doesnt know if its vlsd or not, and I dont want to ask the type of questions that might drive the price up if it does. How can I tell if it has vlsd by looking at it? Any pictures would be a great help. (Side by side with differences circled would be ****-effin-tacular, and could net a donation to your paypal account.) Email: Kaitlynwho@gmail.com with flix.

He blew the battery fuse. You dont ever connect the negative cable to the battery. you ground it to the car. the fuse it in that fuse box next to the battery.

So you do have a new battery in the car? Try either jumping it again or call AAA to jump it. 1 800 222 4357.

Working for AAA FTW...

That should be fine....if tow trucks can jumps civics then you should be fine.......positive cables in both positive towers on both batterys....ground the side near your car and the other ground on the 4runners battery

Should I fix it or trade it?

Just looking for some opinions. I have a 96 SE with about 100k miles and the water pump went out. Besides the water pump the car needs Lower control arms, Tie rods, sway bar end links, and new shocks/springs (the car has cut springs from the previous owner) Looks like to keep the car I am going to have to put a considerable amount of money into it to keep it going. The car is very clean in and out and the transmission was rebuilt a year ago and much fun to drive.

I am just trying to decide whether or not to put money into the car to keep it going or to just let her go and buy a later model. Any input?

Your car is still worth a decent amount and 100k is nothing if the engine has been well cared for. Get a nice suspension set up and keep it!

It is not a clicking like a cv joint would make. More of a clunk sound , and it does it as I go over a bump in the road, or if there is just a rise in the pavement.

with car in park engine off. open the hood and push on the car look and the strut mounts if they move there is your noise. use something to hold your hood up dont rely onthe hood struts. it will fall if you shack hard enough

'07 Headrests- a pain in the neck

Hi, I have had an '07 SL for about 3 months. Fantastic car, but the headrests are angled forward so far (whiplash regulations, I suspect) that I get a neck ache on long drives. I now have a small pillow hanging off the headrest to hold my upper back out and avoid this. Is there a better solution? Has anyone tried bending back the headrest support rods?
