that depends on how much you get the engine for and how much you get the parts for. how much u do the swap for. everything is in range of the price. and what do u consider expensive?

Clutch Issues on '95 SE 5 speed

Hey Guys!

I've been having some issues with my clutch sticking in the floor when I try to engage it to change gears. I've had the clutch, master cylinder, and slave cylinder all replaced in the past year and a half or so, so I'm hoping that it wouldn't be those again. The best way that I can describe it is that I just lose all pressure when I try to push the pedal down, it just goes straight to the floor and doesn't recoil at all. If I pump the clutch for a minute or two, it will usually regain pressure, but I'm sure that that won't fix my problem in the long run. Do you all have any suggestions about which direction I should go in trying to get it fixed?? Thanks in advance!

Daniel

That should help you immensely.
Here's something that may help. i think the best thing is to just find a really good deal on the VQ35. cause u can find cheaper priced parts for the swap.

Hid's And 97-99 Tailights

Is it O.K. TO JUST REPLACE THE BULBS IN THE 97-99 STYLE HEADLIGHTS WITH THE HID WITH NO PROJECTOR. I KNOW GLARE WILL BE AN ISSUE BUT IF YOU AIM IT DOWN TOWARD GROUND IS THAT O.K. OR DOES ANYONE HAVE PICS OF THESE INSTALLS. OR WILL THIS JUST NOT WORK PERIOD.

Also the 97-99 led tail lights on procarparts.com, will they fit on the 95 maximas. And does anyone know is the first hole on the left for the reverse light and the hole on the right side is for the turn signal. The leds are jsut for running lamps and brake right? Are these any good does anyone have these installed on there car with night and day pics? Thanks you guys.

95-99 projector headlights

Does anyone know where I can get a set of 97-99 style headlights with the projectors made into them. I mean does anyone on the board still do this. I think everyone has said no to run hids with the stock 97-99 headlights is this correct or is it just the bad glare and can it be corrected?

Have a quick question, found a good deal on some 19" rims. Their 19x7.5 with an offset of +42 and a bolt pattern of 5x100/114.3. i used the tire calculator and i know the size and offset are good, what i wanted to know was if that bolt pattern will work on our cars. And if the rim has an offset of +48, will it make a significant difference. Also will 235/35/19 tires be good or do i need something smaller.

Don't know if this will help, i have ksport coilovers. Thanks.

I have a question. Just bought a 97 SE this week, went to get it inspected. Failed. Leak in the flex pipe. They quoted me 700 to fix it because they have to "replace several of the converters". Now I'm no car tech, but why would they need to replace the cats for a flex pipe leak? And how much and where could I get one myself, and would it be hard to install? I don't have 700 to fix it and that seems ridiculously overpriced.

Edit: Is this the Y-pipe that everyone is replacing? same pipe? Or is this different?

Don’t get those wheels. Anything under 8” and higher than 40mm will sit too far into the fender well, especially in the rear. That coupled with the tall size will make them look just plain odd.

Our bolt pattern is 5x114.3.

That's the pipe we replce for more power. Chcek the stickys for further information and vendors. It will cost less than half of what they quoted you depending on the brand you choose.

sounds like engine/tranny mounts. have someone sit in the drivers seat (WITH THE BRAKE DEPRESSED) and switch from P to D to R and back and forth. you stand with the hood open and see if anything is moving significantly as the gears change.

Ever see the hindenburg? Batteries create hydrogen gas, and when they explode acid goes in your eyes and all over you and everything nearby, and it is not a pleasant experience. Positive to good, positive to bad, negative to good, ground to bad, in that order, and when you're done remove the grounded one first, that way you don't ever create a spark on the battery terminal.

They only came on the '99 se-l, aka the se limited. I don't have a nissan part # for you though, sorry.

Now when you say ground to bad, you mean attach it onto the body of the car, right? Cuz I noticed you said "ground the side near your car" in the previous post.

So is this referring to the street or the body of the car? thx 100 bro.

I'm a Freshmen college student and i'm looking for a car now,
I dont have much cash and i was interested in the 4th generation Maxima
Now i researched and found out that the 1999 Maxima gave Coil problems and some sensor,
What i wanted to ask you is which year do you think is the most reliable one from 95-99

They all have their issues. I would personally go with a 98. My 95 has been very nice to me, but I’m sure people with 99’s can say the same. All in all, there aren’t major problems with either year in this generation, it depends on the actual car you get how it was maintained and of course how you treat it. There’s really nothing we can’t help you with on here. So just shop around, get a car that look sot be in good condition etc.

I like it because the 95/6 are showing their age, and 98 was the first to have the digital odometer but doesn't suffer the common problems of the 99. Basically, it's the newest one that will have hopefully the least amount of problems. Even then the decision is subjective, go find a 4th gen you like in good condition, the options you want, and who cares what year it is. Shop around and see what you like, and move on.

When craning out an engine in the A32 - can you do it with the tranny still attached or do you have to remove it?

help the max wont start

I hanve a 96 maxima its been sitting for about 6 months. I jumped the car and got it started let it run for 20-30 mins or so & went out to drive it a little to get her breathing again my 1st stop was to the car wash (damn she needed it bad) at the car wash one of the guys turned the car off after it was washed & the car wouldnt start back up so we jumped it and she starter right back up no problem.....so I drove across town to my buddies house (20 min later I turn her off again... so I try to jump it again but this time the car would not start at all even with a jump.....The first thing I do is go get a new battery put it in try to start it nothing.....Now im lost I hear the car clicking when I attempt to start it but its not turning over just click, click click. I know im getting power from the battery all my lights are on in the inside of the car. I guessing it might be the starter but im not sure any idea what this could be or what troubleshooting should I do to figure out what it is ? I have been looking on the site & I see that people are having some problems with there ignition coils, starter relay, etc. How would I figure out if it is the starter, relay, ignition coil etc. ?

Bro
Did some more research on the above and found the module in the engine compartment -- it's a box around 3 inches square with 2 connection plugs -- it's located between the coolant and washer bottles -- mine had a part number of 28575 42U00 RIY.

Replaced it with one from the junk yard for $6 and things are looking pretty good.

The car is very clean in and out and the transmission was rebuilt a year ago and much fun to drive.

I am just trying to decide whether or not to put money into the car to keep it going or to just let her go and buy a later model. Any input?

Well after further research the car needed: LCA's, Tie Rods, Sway Bar End links, Water pump, wheel barings, and shocks/springs just to get it to where I needed it to be not including anything that may come up during the repairs/maintenance. I got $2k for it as a trade and considering I only paid $3k 30K miles ago I got my money out of it.

That being said I traded it for...

03 SE with every option possible. Looks like I will be hanging in the 5th Gen section now. Thanks to everyone who had input.

Hello everyone! I'm new here and this is my first post. I just purchased my first Nissan ever. It's a '96 Maxima GLE with 148K miles on it. Got it for $3600 and i love it. Awesome car and very clean in and out. Anyways, it has a Bose cd/cassette and i want to add a cd changer in the trunk that will play mp3's. What are my options here? I don't want to rip out any of the factory equipment so can a cd changer be added easily? I did notice the Bose head unit does have buttons for a cd changer already.

Next, i would like to do some maitanance related items. I've already replaced my cam position sensor because it caused the car to die at any random time while driving and i've done a tranny fluid and filter change. Next i'm doing a new water pump, thermostat, spark plugs, and knock sensor. Do i need to change plug wires as well? The does also need 4 new struts and a whole entire exhaust system. I don't want aftermarket loud ricer exhaust, just something quality. Any suggestions? thanks everyone.

Posting vs Threading Questions

Not sure I understand the process of posting questions or creating a new thread....I'm a newbie to this site as well as to user group forums. I read something that indicated that it's necessary to post 15 times before you can create a thread? I thought a thread was the ability to post...What is the difference of posting vs creating a thread? Sorry if I'm violating the forum rules here but it is not clear to me where I am going wrong...please set me on the straight and narrow path...

1998 KS Question

My 1998 Maxima is throwing a KS cel. I'm tolled by the dealer that it will cost ~ $250 to $300 to replace. Before I replace it, I want to be sure it is the thing to do. I have had some people advise me that maybe the problem is not with the ks but with something else. It just so happens that I also have 2 EVAP control system cels...EVAP leak and bad check valve. Any advice as to my next steps? How big of a job is it to replace this EVAP check valve? The dealer wants another ~$250 to replace this as well. Before I'm done, it looks like I'll be out upwards of $500 to $750 ...help!

So what is the definition of "useful' posts??? You say I can post in existing threads? So I just 'jump in' an open thread and ask my questions?

For obvious reasons, it be a good idea to fix all codes.

Preferably not ask something that has been asked before. Odds are, your question has been answered several times. So, read the stickys &/or use free search.

SPAM WILL NOT BE TOLERATED.

This is for noobs only and will be open only as long as I feel like maintaining it.

ALL RESPONSES MUST BE A QUOTE OF THE ORIGINAL QUESTION!
New questions, obviously, need not have any quotes.

Postwhoring will not be tolerated!
-If you get an answer to your question, please move along.
-If you have a followup, by all means, post it.
-No posts to say "Thanks!" (We don't need 10,000 posts thanking someone for helping them out.)
-No posting "I want to know that, too."
-Incorrect answers or answers that are just plain annoying will be removed.

All of these will be deleted. If it gets bad enough, I will just ban you.

If you are having mechanical problems (INCLUDING a "Check Engine" light), this thread is a GREAT place to start:

All other sticky threads have answers to common questions, information about common modifications, and other generally good info. I took a week and re-organized it. I did not do this for my own benefit- I don't even OWN a 4th gen.

One more reminder: THIS IS NOT A SUBSTITUTE FOR SEARCHING!!!
