What parts die regardless of miles?

What kinds of things go on our cars due to age, not mileage?
I found a 99 i30 for my gf with only 42k on it but am wondering what things could go wrong with it. I know of the coilpacks issue w/99's. Anything else?

Anything rubber, anything external that could fade due to sun damage. If it's sat for long periods of time, it might have some deposits in the engine. So I would definitely start by changing ALL fluids first and make sure that if the tires aren't too worn, that they aren't cracked from aging.

Rust shouldn't be a big deal since it seems to me most rust comes from spending time on the road in winter.

nothing is really expected to go wrong. imboilzers have given some people problems. Just cause its low milage doesn't mean its going to be a problem free or problem infected. hit or miss really. change out all fluids and see if anything is leaking. pretty much a general inspect of a normal car falls into this stuff. 42k is a really number. I'm a fan of low miles but i would aleast like 7k per year on it.

you have your normal maxima problems and thats about it. coilpacks+ imobilzers were added on to 99's

Don't change anything unless there is a problem or a check engine. Fluids are your only concern really, make sure nothing is leaking. Also make sure the car doesn't hesitate and the check engine light isn't unplugged.

yeah I plan on changing all the fluids. it's only had a couple thousand miles put on it each of the last 4 years (guy was a drunk), but it fires up and drives mint. Two scuffs, one on the bumper and other on the side mirror but I think it should be a great reliable car for her.. much more than her Saturn L200.
So rubber I didn't think about, I'll have to check the suspension boots. Is there anything I could get to condition them?
Tireds are only a couple months old on it so I'm good there.
I'm kind of jealous actually, i like the looks of the i30, especially the back end (with spoiler ofcourse). If it wasn't an auto I'd probably take it myself

Check the steering rack for leaks and pump for noises. A bad rack is something you don't want to have to fool with on a budget car.
