Deft Racing CF hood

I don't know if this is old news or what, but I was just browsing for some nicer hood pins for my CF hood, and I found this CF hood. Never heard of this brand before, but it's another option for 4th gens.

Just to let you know Nealoc, that company is incredible. I bought my cf hood from there and i was amazed by the quality and attention to detail. Ive seen hoods from VIS which are decent, but these guys have a far better product. Not even one single messed up weave or blemish in mine. They are big in the 3s community. So to answer anyones question, if your looking for a good quality hood, get ahold of these guys. They are reasonable and make a nice, lightweight product.

Do all CF hoods use the hood pins or will some use factory latching hardware?

It will function with the stock hardware, but its scary. The hood kinda vibrates in the wind. I wouldnt go over 80 without hoodpins or risk it comming off.

Yeah I'm going to get those hood pins. I have some other ones that were el-cheapos that I was going to install but I hate how pins look, so these are what I'll use because they are a bit more inconspicuous.

Mximus how well did your hood from them fit? I've owned two of them on two different maximas (Fiber Images on my 96 and whatever brand this is on my 95) and neither of them fit quite perfectly. It's like they came out of the mold just a little bit warped.

They make a fiberglass hood as well. Anybody check to see what the weight is of the cf hood and fiberglass hood yet? Them hood pins are great looking as well. If you could get them to be flush with the hood they would not even be noticeable if they were the same color as the hood.

Those hood pins are cool, but I couldnt see myself cutting that big of a hole in the hood to mount them. Im sure it wouldnt make the hood any less durable but I cringed when drilling out the pins for my last two CF hoods.
The price for the hood doesnt seem too bad, even with shipping.
I wonder if they really use "4 layers of clear GEL COAT on all our CF hoods".
If so, they should be really nice hoods.
The hoods Ive seen and had, that was always the failing point, the clear coat.

wow, I just stubled across this comment and I wanted to say thank you!

Yes, it will flex int he wind, but thats why CF is sought after for aircraft and the like.. they want it to flex.. thats why it is so strong I have done 130 in my 3000GT with a 575 hood going out to vegas several times with no issues, but I will add the aerocatch latches sooner or later for added security.

Joe, the FG and CF are about the same weight before painting. It is the strength that is different (and of course, you dont have to paint CF).

Flava... yes, we do 4 layers of the clear, and that's DUPONT 100% UV rated clear made in the USA.. NOT made in china like most hoods!

Happy to help with any questions you might have, but you guys seem to have it dialed in

Haha nice nice! By the way Deftspyder you posted in a two year old thread, I personally don't care but some other members feel agitated when they see threads from years even weeks ago.

But as for the company I wonder if they still have the same quality today as they did two years ago! Only one way to find out

So Im assuming your a seller from Deft racing or some how asscociated with them?
If so, one way to get the Maxima scene familair with the Deft product would be to offer some sort of group sale rate...hint hint.
Now as far as strength goes, what gives carbon fiber its strength is amount of fibers twisted together and its tightness as well as the tensile modulus of the fiber being used, the more fiber woven together the stronger the items.
The density of carbon fiber is much lighter then steel, but just as strong making it ideal for use in lightweight applications. The properties of carbon fiber such as its high tensile strength, its low weight, and low thermal expansion are also why its popular in aerospace use, as well as motorsports., not because it flexes.
Now with all this being said, the majority of the hoods Ive seen being manufactured in the auto aftermarket scene have all been created using a fiberglass skeletal frame with a very thin layer of carbon fiber layered on top of it, thus resulting in a thin, and lightweight hood. So, are you saying that the Deft Racing hoods are much stronger then the other branded hoods out as well as them being stronger then a simple fiberglass hood?
Does the Deft racing hood have its underside sealed up with using fiberglass or carbon fiber or is the underside just the exposed backside of the top layer of carbon fiber?
The reason I ask is I have yet to see one in person and the website doesnt show its underside. Most of the hoods Ive seen werent sealed and had the exposed backside underneath.
Good to hear about the 4 layers. Like I stated before,my previous two hoods eventually lost their clear and also turned that funky green color. Ive seen many hoods do this from many other manufactures. That is why I had my current hood sprayed with muluitple layers of clear before I installed it.

If you don't like it I might buy it off of you since you're local.
