clutch problems

i did a 5 speed swap back in october and put in a new exedy stage 1 clutch and fidanza flywheel. the master and slave cylinders were also new. i never really had any problems until recently.

about a month ago i noticed that whenever i shifted into any gear, the rpms would climb higher and higher but the car wasnt really moving. i noticed that the slave cylinder was low on fluid, it was below the minimum line so i filled it up. i had the car sit for about 2 days and it worked perfectly.

now today the same thing started to happen again. all the fluid levels were good. on top of that, when i put it in any gear, i release the clutch all the way and the car stays on instead of stalling. when i try to give it a little gas it doesnt go anywhere.

any suggestions?

can you feel the clutch grab or you don't feel anything when you let go of the clutch?

By the way it's a different story but I did a 5spd swap just recently and I have the park neutral switch code. How did you wire the park neutral switch thing?

i dont feel anything when i let go of it. i can kinda feel like it wants to stall but it doesn't.

the park neutral safetly switch was bypassed, so it starts without me having to step on the clutch.

Get a friend, pop the hood and have him stand there and watch if the slave cyl if it moves in and out as you press the clutch.

do you smell something fishy under the hood, like the clutch burning?

Also do you feel back pressure in the clutch pedal?

Then with your park neutral switch bypassed, isn't it kind of dangerous?

i dont smell anything burning. i hope the clutch is not burnt out because it has less than 3k miles on it. i don't do any hard launching with it i usually baby it. the only other thing going on under the hood right now is that my vavle cover gasket is leaking a little bit of oil.

from what i have heard there really isn't any danger with having the neutral safety switch bypassed. the only thing is that if i remote start the car and its in gear, it will take off. thats the only danger that i know of.

Dont think neutral safety has anything to do with that at all. Mine has been bypassed for years.
Its either your car starts or doesnt and if your cruise control works or not.

I think its something mechanical. Could be your clutch isnt adjusted right and isnt fully disengaging.

The same thing happened to a friends ford escort (new clutch and all that) Turned out that the rear main seal or another seal was busted and soaked the clutch/flywheel with tranny fluid and was basically undrivable. If he let the car sit overnight, it was drivable like normal for a few miles until the clutch gets saturated again down the road.

i know when i bought the clutch, there was a paper in the box that said it should be re-adjusted after 1500 miles and then after every 10k miles. i never did this at the 1500 mile interval and im thinking this might be a possibility as well. i will trying pumping it and seeing if the slave moves in the morning.

the guy that did the swap is telling me that my clutch is burnt out and that it cant be the re-adjustment thing because it only sits one way in there. i just find it hard to believe that it would burn out so quickly knowing that there wasn't any harsh driving done.

There is an adjustment on the master cyl where it mates with the clutch pedal, you remove the pin from the master cyl rod and turn the fork to adjust it in or out. Without looking at your car, my only advice is to check to make shrue that it isnt adjusted too far where it is constantly pushing the master cyl in causing the clutch to be slightly disengaged all the time.

What nismo said in post 7 sounds very reasonable. Seems like the same symptoms you are having.

Also Nismo you did a 5spd swap too? If you did do you have the park/neutral switch code? If not, how did you do your wiring? do you have other wires coming out besides your reverse lights wires from the wires on the transmission?

I still have a code for the p/n sensor. I wired mine to a button rather than the clutch pedal switch. Still dont know why I get the code but its something I been trying to figure out for years now. Heres one of the few posts I made about it. http://forums.maxima.org/showthread....67#post5549067

has anyone else had any issues with the exedy stage 1 racing clutch. I purchased this clutch in the summer last year and have not been able to put it on yet. I am doing the job at the beginning of may and do not want any issues.

my car has 93000. mods are bolt ons.
