Flex section on y-pipe

The flex section on the y-pipe on my 95 Maxima SE has failed. I have been reading this forum for some options. I was all set to get an aftermarket y-pipe when I read that Jeggs sells universal flex pipes. I was wondering if anyone has actually had the flex section cut out and had a universal flex section either clamped or welded in. If anyone did have this done, what were your results? Any problems? "Bees in the can" sound? If I go this route, would it be best to get an aftermarket CAT since the pipe connections may have to be cut in order to get the flex section out. Does anyone know the dimensions of the stock flex section?

get rid of that stocker and go aftermarket. if nothing else you'll get a few more MPG. the stock y pipe is a design disaster.

another cheapo fix I've heard is to wrap the flex section in exhaust wrap.

Yeah, you can easily have any muffler shop cut out the old flex section and weld a new piece in. They will usually have a full range of sizes in stock so they'll pick the right one for the max.

Agreed. $30 at local muffler shop for old flex cut out and new one in.
