axle replacement Q's
i need both axles replaced, someone had told me that any axle whether it be auto or manual will work with my car. if this is true i could go to the junk yard and get 2 axles quick and cheap. can anyone shine some light on which axles i need,
i have a 98 5spd non abs, non vlsd

As far as axle replacement goes, just cough up the 130 dollars for both axles and get it done right. Its a very simple and easy task, and once you get it done, you wont have to worry about it for the rest of your life. As far as the fitment for the axles, when you get to autozone, or kragen, or wherever to buy a rebuilt axle, they'll go through the questions with you so you get the right ones. Don't cut any corners on this, just do it right.

yea thats great but i dont plan on paying someone to do it for me, and not worrying about it for the rest of my life would be fantastic but we all know that axle boots dont last a lifetime. thanks for the responses but noone answered my question of are the axles different on auto and non and abs and non? i was told that the only difference between abs and non is a removeable ring on the end of the shaft that goes into the tranny.

its better to pay that $130 and have a piece of mine.... if you buy one from the junk yard and it goes out again (which it definitely will) you have to buy another one again but if you buy one from AZ you have lifetime warranty.....
besides you saving money by replacing it yourself anyway

itll be around 160 or so for both of the axles from kragen. its really not that much. if you can get the new cardone ones from kragen or autozone they will be about 220-230 or so for both.

yea sounds good, i should have taken the axles off and rebuilt them when they tore the boots, but it was like 5 degrees outside and it stayed pretty cold all winter, i even bought new rubber boots. oh well i guess ill go to the junk yard and pick up two axles and change the boots when i get them. oh yea and kc10 that was the worst comeback. thanks for the breakdown dannyboy i just dont really like going to places like autozone and stuff because the employees there are usually as sharp as bowling *****, thanks for the info but i still dont know if auto axles will fit on a manual, abs non abs, etc. thanks

HEY!!!! I WORK AT AUTOZONE!!!!! LOL anyways... that site can help you figure out if the axles are interchangable or not... As far as it LOOKS... I think the ABS and nonABS will interchange as long as they are the same style tranny. I don't think a manual axle will fit a automatic... plus.... you need to know if the donor car has Limited Slip... if it does and yours doesn't it wont work...

by cardones website it looks like the new ones will fit a manual and auto, make sure it is not limited slip those are different, and abs doesnt matter if your car doesnt have it, it is just a ring with bumps on the wheel end. for the reman ones the left (drivers side) apperently are differently.
