how to get key mark out

i got keyed on my driver side door, and i have been asking around finding out how to get this out but nobody seems to know a good way other than spending $500 to repaint the door. the key mark is past the clear coat but not to the metal, and is about 18 inches long. does anybody have any ideas on how i can get this out? i appreciate it.

Have you tried buffing it out? Also the Detailing section could probably help.

Man,same sh** happened to me 2 years ago on the drivers side rear door.Just keep waxing it cuz thats what i did and its not really noticable anymore.Thats why i keep a good coat of wax on it so d**kheads cant scratch it up like that again.

touch it to see if you can feel any major dept. usually you can clay bar it followed by some polish & wax. it all depends on how deep it is tho...

peoplle claim meguirs scratch X works fairly well if it is just in the clear coat. Just keep applying layers of that and wax.

the way a bodyshop would do it is to featheredge it out and then repaint it. but since that probably isnt an option for you, maybe try one of those like touch up paint pens or something? i like VIP maxima's idea too.

I had a 90' Mustang 5.0 a few years back that that happened too. All the waxing and touch ups in the world didn't stop me from looking at that door everytime i entered that Stang. Eventually I just sucked it up, went to a good bodyshop and bent over as they gave it to me raw. Then i kicked that little 3 year olds @ss that did it. What im tryin to say is that it will never be good enough till you get it done right. Good Luck
