Question for you Paint Guys ??

Went to get my NEW, unpainted, Stillen Front lip painted. Went to a reputable shop near my house, not really looking for a steal, just a good job. Gave the guy the lip, said come back in a week and bring 100$ cash and itll be done. Pretty much straight forward.

He calls me when its done and sais it took an hour longer than he thought cause of the "crappy quality" of the Stillen Lip. Stated it would be $150 instead of $100. Thats 50% MORE and not even a phone call from him...he state the "aftermarket quality is bad". "It had to be sanded down after it was primered so the paint would be smooth and that added an hour to the job" Well I stuck to my guns when I went to pick it up and only paid the $100 after a bit af arguing"

Here I am, a new customer and they are trying to bs me. How is this any way to get new customers, ya know ?? I dont understand. Ive heard such great things about this body shop and then this happens.

Let me know what you guys think.

well for one, youre not supposed to sand primer. unless he used primer surfacer, then that is sandable.

Def a moron. Hell, when I took my Ionics kit to the body shop, he LOVED the kit, he said it was much stronger and nicer than the ricer kits he has seen. And stillen has even better kits so it is ALL BS. They prob messed up painting and had to resand so they wanted to charge you more.

Thats what I figured. He said it was "rough" and hard to get smooth cause it was aftermarket. BS !! Its funny cause it was a 50% increase in price. If he said it was liek $120 or something, cause they had to put a bit more time into, thats ok, but $150 !!! Kinda rediculous.

I would have stuck to my guns too. Horrible customer service IMO. Not a way to get people to come back. If he told me it took longer and still would charge me $100 I'd probably go back to him, but not after that kind of ****. He just lost your service and service of anyone you might know too. Not a smart business move.

Yup, a notification in that situation is a must. That's a pretty good price especially from a reputable shop, there's a crappy place around here that paints anything for a minimum of $99.

100$ for a front lip is rather on the cheap side.

i assume the paint shop should follow the guide lines of a auto shop. which by law have to inform you and ask for aleast virbal confirmation of a quote being higher by 10% or more. if you dont agree they cant not charge and give you the car/ part as is BY LAW.

complete BS. i wouldnt pay them $100.01

he coulda called you in advance and let you know.
if he knew his stuff, he could tell right off the bat that something like that was needed. needless to say, $100 is a good deal. body shops and mechanics are thieves, dont let your hard earned money pay their finance payment on their lambo. i can tell you so many stores about mechanics and body shops trying to lube me up that we'll be talking all day. the sad part is that its all caused by our rides. they think we are well off to afford mods for our cars and they wanna lube us up. no we arent well off, we save every hard earned penny and buy mods.
