Bypassing Bose Amps

I have installed an aftermarket HU and now i am thinking about replacing all of my speakers. the only thing that would stop me from replacing them is if i have to rewire the entire car. is it possible to bypass the amps and use the present wiring of the car with aftermarket speakers and HU? are there any guides on doing this? sorry for the repetiveness of this thread, i'm sure ive seen things about this on other threads i'm simply trying to put it all together in one place.

Match up the wires in the doors and going to the rear deck with whats behind the headunit by color, and then use those, OR just run new wires, it's really easy in the 4th gen.

I attempted to get a new deck for my car but they guys at ultimate electronics and best buy said they wont do it because all HUs only do 4 ohms and the Bose are 8 ohms. You can do it but they say it sounds like ****. Is this true? I can only imagine the speakers being louder at lower levels and thats not a big deal.

They're shooting **** up your a$$. Bose is 1 ohm not 8 ohm and you can simply run a metra 70-7551 in place of a typical harness and get a new HU installed.

Oh, right on! so the metra 70-7551 is the only harness you need?

yeah i had the same experience, they have no idea what they are talking about. you just need an adapter for it. i got mine off crutchfield for only $20 if you bought the HU from them, i think it was $40 if you already had the HU.

and they send you the antenna adapter, and all the other things you need for install. i know i sound like an ad rep, but i personally would shop with crutchfield over anyone else (aside from a private dealer), great customer service, and they generaly send you all the extra parts that you need for an install that bestbuy charges you out the a$$ for when they install it.

is there any disadvantage to just matching up the colors? i kind of want to use the existing wires incase i ever decide to sell the car and reinstall the bose speakers.

You can use the aftermarket HU with the bose speakers if you get the proper harnest. You want to use the RCA jacks that come out the back of the HU into the new harnest. Dont even try to use the powered Speaker leads to the existing harnest.... wont work.... Hope that helps.

Yes. I replaced the Bose system with aftermarket head unit and speakers and re-used the stock wiring. As others have said, all you need is the harness for the radio ($20 bucks) and an antenna adapter ($10 bucks?). At the doors and rear speakers, you just remove the Bose speaker/amp, cut off the Bose speaker connector and hook them up to your new speakers. Get a Haynes manual. It has useful wiring diagrams for the entire speaker system to tell you which color wire is what.

ive already got the new HU installed and i had to buy a special harness for it to work with the bose speakers so i dont really want to buy another harness if i dont have to. on the curent harness each speaker output has a screw wich can be adjusted to limit the output from the amp, so my question is if i just turned it all the way down (so it didnt have any limit) would that work just as well as getting a new harness, or is it always going to have some impedance?

honestly its not worth trying to bypass the amps, just rewire the car. I did it over winter break and it took me a grand total of an hour at most. The max is really easy to rewire. Perhaps the most annoying thing was trying to get wire through the rubber dams in the doors but then i just ran it with the wires going to the window switch. The stock wiring SUCKS! Its like 22 gauge wire thats 10 years old by now. Do yourself a favor and run new wires.

What do you after market HU people do with the extra room with the step from double slot to single slot? I had an MX6 w/ an after market unit (same situation) and always hated the gapping hole in my dash. I want to avoid that on my Maxima, its much nicer.
Thanks for the wiring wisdom, I'm probably doing this soon as my Bose unit now no longer plays CDs.

well there are two options. right now i am looking at a radio that is a double slot that will use the whole space (kenwood dpx302) or they make a dash kit that takes up the extra space left from a single slot and makes another compartment out of it.
