i have this tick in my engine, 160k, sounds like it may be coming from the valve train...any ideas for diagnosis? use a s***hoscope? check the clearances maybe?

 

Are you sure you're not just hearing the injectors ticking?

 

is it a like a wood sounding clack?

 

the ticking increases with rpms, sounds like a chik chik chik sound... kinda of hard to describe, i dont think its the injectors, although im not really sure what injectors should sound like. this sound is pretty loud, and can be heard over the sound of my exhaust, (y pipe back) not really sure how i should go about diagnosing this sound..

 

It's normal. The injectors are loud. They really do click.

 

yeah our maxima have loud injector, at least we can tell if they all are working right

 

you check your oil level?? if your low, could be your lifters clicking away. i have about 164,000 on mine and i burn oil all the time and have to top off at around every 2,250 with half a quart.

 

+1 for the injectors...normal sound...
