"Dead spot" around 1.2k to 1.5k

I dont know a better way to put it. In all gears right around 1.2k the car will start making a mild griding sound with hesitation. With a little more gas the grinding and hesitation will stop and the rpms will jump up 300rpm instantly.

I dont think it is gear slippage because the tranny isnt doing anything. The sound does however come from right where the tranny is.

Thanks

Does it do it in neutral?

My 5spd does that occasionally if I come off the clutch really fast without giving it enough gas....it is either the clutch beginning to slip, or the engine beginning to bog then recovering.

I drove my car again and took better notice of the problem. It is fine while accelerating through. Once at speed and I completely let off the gas and as soon as I press it again it does this. It is also at higher rpms that I thought, more around 2k.

Its an automatic and it doesnt do it in nuetral.

Sounds like a tranny problem since it doesn't do it in neutral. Does it do it in each gear? To test, put the car in "1" and see if it does it. Put it in 2 and see if it does it after the first shift. Then put it in drive and turn off overdrive and see if it does it in 3rd gear after it shifts from 2nd.

It happens in all gear, more so in 2nd and 3rd, not so noticeable 4th+

What does the tranny do when you let off the gas for a couple seconds? Shouldnt it just coast with it and keep going when you reaccelerate? Does anything engage/disengage as soon as you completely let off the gas?

I was thinking that it might be my TPS.

I know my knock sensor is bad and it will be replaced in the next couple days, do you think that could cause the problem?

It's not the KS.

When you let off the gas, sometimes it just stays in gear other times it seems like it goes down to idle.

I think it goes to idle when it happens then, and when I step on the gas it needs to put it back in gear thus my problem. Is that a clutch problem?

Mine seems to do this. The grinding and hesitation aren't very noticible, but they're enough to annoy you in stop and go traffic. Mine only does this when accelerating from a stop (1st gear).

Sounds sort of like mine, its not horrible... but it is god awful annoying. How long has your been doing this? Is it getting worse? Mine will do it a little bit from a stop but is mainly coasting for a while and re-accelerating.

I will leave it if i know that its not gunna blow my tranny down the line. Its annoying, but i can live with it.

Mine seems like it's always been there. It's not nearly as bad as yours; it's more hesitation than grinding. It doesn't do it when re-accelerating, though.

i had this exact same problem in my old 240sx. it feels liek there isnt enough torque to turn the gears/wheels so your tranny feels like its having problems. believe it or not, it was jsut because of buildup in the engine and it was having problems properly combusting at those low rpms. get some techron fuel system cleaner to get that efficient combustion back in the low range, and if that works, your just fixed the problem for under 7 bucks. if not, then u may have more serious issues.

Mine was doing this... dealer says it's bad fuel injectors causing misfire. I've just replaced them and as soon as I can get the max bolted back up I'll see if they were right.

I find the misfiring wouldnt cause this problem, misfiring is more serious and you would notice it right away.

Im not switching gears, at 1.2k to 1.5k and i accelerate there is this weird hesitation, when i push the throttle harder it will shoot past the hesitation and run fine 400rpm more.

Ill try the carbon buildup cleaner, ive got high miles so im sure it wont hurt.
