Too many readiness moniters?
To make it short: I had a code before emissions, had the car tested and failed (obviously), fixed the code, drove for a week, got a new code, cleared the code at Autozone, went back to get tested again for emissions and couldn't test/failed because of "Too many readiness monitors". Is this because of the clearing the code or what? It just came back on and I need to clear it again. I need to pass in the next 15 days or so. Need to know if its because I had the code cleared or what. Thanks.
When ever you reset your ECU there are a bunch of stupid monitors that need to also reset, but they need time. You need to drive your car for them all to come back on. You need to find out what that new code is for, fix the problem and then drive for a while to get those monitors to reset, then go in for smog.

you can pass with 2 or less in the 'not ready' status but if there are more than 2 saying 'not ready' than you fail.
I am a state inspector for the state of texas, I am sure emissions vary from state but resetting your ecu with make the individual sensors for emissions go to a "not ready" status. We usually tell drivers to drive 50-60 miles then come back and we will test it again. If you have check engine codes related to emissions and you reset your ecu, then drive the 60 miles and it the light comes on back again, you need to the problem fixed. After a certain amount of monitors turn from "not ready" to "ready" it will force the ecu to become ready and your car will either be ready to pass with 2 not readys or less or your fail with the check engine light and 3 or more not ready monitors.
If your light does come back on find on, find out what it is, then get it fixed, you will have to get the code clear afters its fixed, then do your drive cycle of 50 miles. Ask your emissions shop or a place like autozone to check the readyness monitors, they can tell you if you will pass or fail. Also most emissions shops will check your monitors and your check engine codes if you ask them before you ask for an inspection. By state law if you go in for emissions they can't tell you that your car will fail if they see the light on, on the dash, they have to go ahead and do the inspection and you lose your money.

Appreciate the help guys. It's egr related code. I'm running out of days to get the car inspected because I'm busy at work and don't have time to get there, then I failed, and I'm trying to figure out what to do. I guess I'll buy new egr stuff from someone and see if it fixes the code. That's the only problem I had. I think I drove the car more than 60 miles before the light came back on so I'll clear it again and if it doesn't come on in 60 miles I'll try to get it inspected again.
