what plug is near the oil filter?

Okay, so looking at my car today, went underneath and found that my ac belt is completely almost torn apart, missing 2 ribs... and that there is a plug that doesnt connect to anything on the wire end, seems to have ripped or something. okay so if you are looking the hood towards to trunk, if you look underneath the car, right by the oil filter there is a plug. which wires do the plug go to any idea, and what is it for? and also for the belt, just turn the bolt counter clockwise and loosen the bolt on the pulley? thanks!

The wires probably go to your crank position sensor. All it is is a glorified electromagnet that tells the ecu the position of the crank at that point. Have you had any trouble starting the car?

as far as replacing your ac belt, loosen the bolt in the center of the idler pull then then the adjuster, the top bolt, counter clockwise to loosen the adjuster and pull off the belt then reverse. it should be laid out in the FSM and the Haynes manual

that plug could be for the oil pressure sender, i'm not sure what the ecu would do when that wasn't hooked up, or if the light would be on or not.

yeah the car is harder to start every day now, it seems like the fuel pump isnt sending enough fuel to the fuel injectors. the starter is turning over but it takes forever for the car to start, i have to press on the gas pedal to get it going... so i am replacing the fuel pump... so it would be the crankshaft position sensor?

its the crank position sensor... I just fixed mine... the wire got cut somehow, and had all sorts of starting probles till i found it...

http://www.cardomain.com/member_page...47_20_full.jpg THIS IT?

fix that wire, and it will start fine...

I also ziptied mine so it rides above the lip on the oil pan not below, to help protect it in the future...

It's either the crankshaft POS or the camshaft POS. There are three of those total...one in the front of the engine...one near the oil filter...and one next to the timing chain I believe. If his starts are hard, it's one of the two sensors I just mentioned as I had that problem on my 97 GXE,

There are 2 of them, if you don't believe go to the dealer and try to order one, they will ask which one you want. they are both magnietic pick up type sensors, the one in the bell housing uses the flywheel to determine crank position. You test the front one by using an ohmeter, i think it should be around 450-500 ohms. The one on the bell housing can get metallic buildup from the flywheel so every couple years just clear it off if the car acts up with starting.

Check the for sale forums and check for posts of anyone parting out like for example org member Fanaticrockford and ask them to cut off the wiring harness cause I doubt you can get the actual plug from the dealer.
