Replacing strut bearings....replace strut mount too?

I have been experiencing some seriously sloppy steering wheel play of late and a clunk clunk clunk sound when turning corners. I have come to the understanding that a bad strut bearing can cause both of these problems so I am replacing both of them.

I was wondering if replacing the whole strut mounting piece(rubber insulator, everything above the bearing) would be necessary? I couldn't see how this would effect the handling. Could it?

Being a 99', they are probably still ok, but inspect them when you have em out to the bearings.

I had the same loose steering and clunks. First my wheel bearing died. Replaced that and it helped the problem somewhat... and then I replaced the mounts, which did the trick. While you're in there, replace the strut bearing if it doesn't turn smoothly... it's a cheap part anyways.

i have the same noises when cornering or when there is a lot of people in the car and going over humps on the road, but the steering feels very precise, not loose

Just get the kyb ones from the group deals section. Order the one that comes with the strut bearing, they are cheaper than going to autozone and its a better brand.

i hear the kyb mounts are lower quality than new stock. but should be better than 150k worn ones.

The KYB Strut mounts are good quality,

I have them on the fronts of my GS400, Camry V6, as well as the Max.

Not a peep, clunk or squeek.

For $60 bucks they will give you piece of mind.
