Engine Teardown trouble

if anybody has done this before i need to know what kind of socket that gets the damn main caps off so i can pull the crank shaft if anybody knows this, THANK YOU in advance

They would be either e-torx or 12-point. Do you have a picture?

They are e-torx.

I am thinking E14 or E16.

cauce im having it hot tanked before i rebuild everything im not half assing rebuilding this engine mine as well do it right the first time

They're also called "External Torx" Or E-Torx that Eng92 made...just to simplify for the people at "Dangerzone"

External Torx. Craftsman carries a set in most Sears stores, Advance has the set I bought in stock by Gearwrench, PN: 80582

I can't help you on the size, however, if you're this far into a motor, I'm assuming that either automotive mechanics is either a hobby you really enjoy or you are doing it out of necessity to keep your car running. In either case, these type of fasteners are becoming more and more popular and buying tools now wouldn't be a bad idea. Tools are a great investment. Just as a for instance, my 1988 Jeep has E-torx for the brake caliper pins. Go figure.

PS Of course, I am addicted to tools and spend almost as much on them as my cars, so maybe you shouldn't take my advice

It's because you're a newb. If you read the FAQ, you'd know this.
