scary noise in 96 5sp gearbox!!help

guys, any educated guesses on this. a loos claaanky sound when going thru my gears! even when im in nuetral , ill be coasting and hear this claanky sond like somethings loose down there?? anyone strongly think they know/ im hoping /just linkage,or bushing.etc. if so do I have a little time, without messing something else up real bad. if its linkage,is it just a little in parts and a big labor bill? the clutch feels fine ,likes its not in the equation

You'll have to be a little more descriptive. Exactly at what point does the noise occur? Can you make a video of it and post it up?

I'm guessing chipped gears.

Unless you're lucky and it's something unimportant that's rattling around on something inside the tranny, or it's the throwout bearing, expect this to be expensive. It's usually $400 just to get the tranny in/out in many shops, and that's not counting solving the problem.

I had a similiar problem. everytime i rode the gears in the high RPMs i would hear a whearing or loud whining sound. When I down shifted to low gears, pressing in the clutch, I would also hear the noise.

turns out it was the throwout bearing/clutch bearing. Replaced it, and it still makes noise, just not as loud. Looks like i also have a bad bearing INSIDE of the transmission that can only be solved by a transmission rebuild.

YAY!! hopfully the trans will last long enough so I can save up for the rebuild and diff.=)

its a clanky looseness on the way to each gear, seems equal on each gear,no favorite one,it seems to go in each gear without any more effort/just makes this noise on the way/what does the shift linkage do?what do syrnconizers do? could it be either of those?its right in between a clink and a clunk/its a clank/thanks for trying to help
