'96 Max, replaced struts, now odd noise while turning wheel

Hi,

I've finally got around to replacing my front struts after 190K. I replaced the OEMs with Monroes Sensitrak as the price was right. Anyhow I put everything together and now hear an odd sound when turning the steering wheel from side to side. I've also replaced the strut bearing while I was at it. The car rides fine, no noises going over bumps, just when turning the steering wheel as when going around a corner. (I had the wheels aligned a few hours ago.)

Any ideas for a fix?

Thanks,
Chris....

PS. I did check out this forum's suspension guides, but most deal with lowering and the accompanied noises.

you check your wheel bearings, spindles, tie rod ends, ball joints and control arms?

Check lower end links, and tie rods to see if they have too much play, or are busted. These are usually noticed after the change of struts. Most people swap out the struts because that's the easiest thing to point out, and it usually needs to be replaced anyway, but most links are neglected.

Well, I didn't have the noise before I replaced the struts. The alignment technician checked for components for wear, wheel free play, etc., and pronounced it good to go with the alignment.

I wandering though, I've torqued the top strut nut while the car was still up on the jacks, would it make a difference it the car was on the ground prior to torquing those nuts? I suppose I can retorque if it makes a difference.

The ride is identical to stock as far as I can tell. The springs are stock. The rears were done 2 years ago.
