USIM rant

Today after still dealing with my stalling problem decided to see exactly how hard it was to take of an Upper USIM. dear lord.

So for my first time the tear down took an hour total, I took off the IACV, deattached the TB, removed theMAF/Midpipe section, took off the accelerator/cruise and removed all tubes and hoses and wires and clips that needed to be moved. Great, Manifold is off and I can check the resistance of my Injectors which happens to be fine.

Putting it all back together took about 4 hours. 3 of which were actually spent on ONE BOLT. The driver side UIM support bracket bolt in the back. First there's no way in hell to being to try and see what your doing. Second I'm glad I have small hands (which are extremely sore and ripped right now), and third WHY DONT THINGS LINE UP. It was a 3 hour struggle between getting that in or loosening the other to move the manifold around a bit to get it all to line up. Then I went to bolt the EGR guide tube back on, and long and behold the gasket falls out AND the bolts don't line up.

So I loosen things up AGAIN and it all finally bolts up. The rest felt like heaven, putting the coilpacks back in, and all the wiring and tubes and such.

Car started! Still runs like ****, but at least I can get to class tomorrow. And I only lost 1 10mm bracket bolt that holds some wire in the process.

OH and btw, wtf is with that bracket on the IACV that holds that connector? Why is it so damn hard to get to. I mean all it is, is a bracket that holds up a connector, couldn't they have picked somewhere else to put it, anywhere else, against the firewall or whatever, anywhere but there. It sits right infront of an IACV bolt and is a pain to get back in.

/end rant

sorry and thank you

i feel your pain. Here's a tip: f*ck that bracket. Trying to get the egr tube and that bracket to line up all at the same time is a *****. You dont really need the bracket if all the other bolts are on. The egr area is a *****

It's not all too bad. Thread in the 4 bolts in the front of the UIM enough so they keep it from flopping around, but loose enough to still move it. Then loosely thread the two support bracket bolts in, as well as the EGR tube bolts. Tighten down the front UIM bolts/nuts, then all the crap behind it.

Tha's how I did mine and I had no trouble at all.

Yup, I remember doing that myself and then helping another .org member take his apart. Good times! Those bolts in the back are crazy hard to put back in, specially with that huge vacuum line back there.

the most aggravating part is when you think you have it lightly threaded and after 20-30 clicks on the socket wrench it suddenly loosens and you realize you actually didn't have it in right
