High Idle now
High Idle now
So I've had this stalling problem that I'm sure your all tired of seeing, as I make a new thread about my progress every month or so. Well I replaced the MAF on a whim. Today before I replaced it, the car would run like $hit, sputtering and dieing and overall crappy. Until it would idle @ 1,900rpm's. Then it would at least run reliably.
I replaced the MAF, it turned over ok, idled @ 600, but when I started driving it would start idling @ 1,500rpm's until I turned it off. It seems when I start driving it just sets the idle real high. Any reason why?

I've been dealing with a high idle problem myself. Another member on here replaced my stock air intake with a cone type air intake and also installed a new TPS and it didn't stop it 100%. I've noticed that when its cold outside, its more than likely to happen than on a day when its 80+ degrees. My RPM's will go up to 2000 to 3000. I turn it off and it comes down to 500. Not sure what causes it, but good luck at figuring out yours.
TPS: Checked, Replaced, and Recalibrated.
ECTS: Replaced, and in good working order.
Intake: CAI, Filter replaced, tubing re-inspected & tightened.
PCV Valve: Replaced.
Spark Plugs: Cheked and Replaced.
Fuel Injectors: Resistance checked, Firing checked, leaks checked.
Fuel Filter: Replaced.
Fuel Injector Cleaner: Two bottles of Techron have been run through.
Exhaust: Found a hole in the B-Pipe/Muffler connection, getting replaced by maximariceboi's shop next week or so.
TB: Cleaned (twice), found a torn gasket I need to fix, its just rippe around two of the four 12mm bolts.
IACV: Cleaned, metal gasket is in good shape.
MAF: Replaced.
I don't believe I need to reset the base idle because it initially idles correctly, meaning some other variable causes the car to maintain a higher idle while in use. I drove it earlier and it was better, it would idle in the high hundreds, low thousands, but the more I used it, it went back to about 1,500. I've only driven about 10-15 miles on the new MAF. I'm going to give it another 45-50 miles, because I hear it takes the ECU ~60 miles to adjust itself accordingly.
If anybody can think of anything else to check, please let me know, because if this doesn't work, I'm taking it to a shop, leaving it with them and giving up. I've done everything short of yank my injectors and send them off to deatchwerks

Where would I go about spraying this?
Only reason I haven't checked for a leak of sorts is because the problem is intermittent, like the problem wasn't bad today or existent after the MAF swap, but i could have just had a lucky night and it might run horrible tomorrow. I figured with a leak it would be a constant thing. I could be very wrong
i never really measured it. it replaced the rusty OEM one when as i was buying the car.
you think i should get an aftermarket exhaust ? the whole exhaust is stock. and i dont want it to sound loud, just stronger than stock, not loud like a honda civic.
i dont know much about exhaust, what should i do ?
EDIT: yeah its a 2" tip, the stock size is 2.25" is it not? i guess i am restricting flow

I used the old metal gasket, made it nice and tight, shouldn't be leaking from there. but I'll get around to replacing the TB/IACV gaskets soon

Pleas don't adjust those screws on the TB........ The only one you should ever attempt to use to adjust the idle is the big black plastic one on the iacv. Also, if you have an ohm meter it's fairly easy to check that the tps is properly adjusted.

I love it when people post follow ups, that makes my day man!
Out of curiousity, did you do any diagnoses with an obdII scanner and checking data or did you just replace or swap it on a whim?

you got it, the latter. I was completely stumped and it was that or I was about to start replacing fuel lines and injectors. So on a whim I bought a $50 MAF from fanaticrockford and voila. Now have a high idle again, but its because my wheel well liner where my CAI sits behind has ripped out from driving too fast. (wind bent it down, caught the road slipped under the tire and ripped out). I've been driving like that and the Air Filter is filthy so that and obvious one.

yeah mine might as well just be replaced now..its a monster flow foam one but...its a couple years old.
