cigarette lighter problem

my cigarette lighter keeps popping the 15a fuse. it will work for 1 or 2 days, powering the cigarette lighter and ocasionaly a cellphone charger. i dont think what is plugged in is the problem because it doesnt pop as soon as i use it or plug it in. could it just be loose wires shorting it out? suggestions?

check for short in the wires for it. Probe down the wires with a multimeter checkin for voltage/ continuity. When something changes, bam, look back on the wire for signs of a short. Good luck

It could just be your Maxima's way of telling you to stop smoking . Do you have anything connected to those wires, using the same power?

do you mean you replaced the visible hole (not sure what else to call it) that you plug your various accesories into or do you mean you replaced that and all of the wires that lead to it?

I replaced the whole assembly that plugs into the wiring harness. It cost about $35.00 at the dealer. This includes a new element and the female section the the element goes into.
