factory alarm

Hey guys, I just bought a repo'd 97 max and it has a factory alarm that keeps going off when ever I try to open the door. It doesn’t stop if you unlock the door with the key either. The only way to get the engine to start is by turning the key to the on position then disconnect the battery wait a couple of seconds then reconnect it. Do you guys know how to disconnect the factory alarm completely and still be able to start the car. Thanks in advance for the response

I had a similar problem on my 3rd gen. The procedure to do it on that car was pretty extensive (partly on purpose, I suppose.........you really don't WANT someone to be able to pull a fuse and disable the alarm and still be able to start the car) It was the ONLY time in the 6 years I had it that I actually broke down and took it to the dealer. Cost about $120 if I remember. maybe easier on a 4th gen, but I doubt it.

Do you remember any part of that procedure or what the dealer said they had to do to remove the alarm or at least stop if from going hay wire. Anyone else please.

I had that problem when i shaved my door handles, alarm would good off everythime i opened the door. i had to use a key fob to unlock the door, so you might want to get a key fob and program it and that might solve your problem.

+1^^^...also you can check the alarm system in the trunk, I dont know what'll happen if you unplug it but its in the right side wall underneath the carpet right behind the antenna. I dont think a 97 has an immobilizer in it.

if the alarm goes off and you just disconnet the battery and plug it back up it will still go off, i pulled the fuse and still could not start the car til I had the remote to disable it.

Try unlocking it from the passanger side or trunk next time (yeah, I know, as if the trunk lock actually works), if it doesn't go off when you do that it is an issue with the sensor in the driver side door lock.

I tried what you guys suggested but I could not find the alarm unit behind the antenna and it still goes off which ever door lock or even trunk lock is used. I think I will just buy a fob and program it. Is anyone selling one and which fcc id does the 97's use.

I think you'll have to remove the right side trunk wall cover to see it.

Try consulting the service manual for troubleshooting help. If you dont have one heres a link to a site http://x.nissanhelp.com/forums/local_links.php?catid=16 just register there (if your not already) and look up EL-256 and look for your symptoms. Hope this helps.

you just need to get a key fob and unlock it with that, that will disable the alarm.

OK I finally figured it out and have fixed the problem the best I can without having to acquire a key fob or completely taking the out the alarm. It took me about 45 mins to figure it out but it worked. I would write a sticky but there may be some objectionable ethics issues here since the procedure is quite simple. But basically all I did was jump the little disarm switch that is by the driver's left foot and then disconnected the siren and light flashing connector that plugs into the alarm module located under the dash by the driver's foot. Now this allows me to open the car without the alarm going off and I can also start the car and drive it with no problems. If you need more details and pictures, please email me at charlesuzoanya@msn.com since I dont check my PM very often.
