And maxima.org makes me keep it also. I always see the latest innovations that people come up with here on the org it just makes me want the car more.

I think hacim105 has a sexy looking 4th gen. Love the way you kept it clean and is that carbonfiber kit?

Yeah, the styling is nice, but so are the 2 cars I mentioned in my orginal post. Subaru legacy and vw jetta wagon. Way nicer in my opinion and there wont be any "unplanned maintenance" for a long time. It should all be covered under warranty.

To the guy *****in about ******* this and ******* that, because he has to have mechanics fix his ****.. what are you going to school for? A person can only know so much, and after that he has to call in a 'professional', OR learn it! Thats life.. whatever you know how to do, you'll obviously get done at a good price, and whatever you DONT know how to do, you'll either need to learn it or take it in the @ss on the price. Period.
To the original poster.. it doesnt sound like you want to know why everyone else keeps their Max.. it sounds like you're looking for the masses to justify you getting a new ride. If you want a new ride, get a new ride! Just remember the payments, and even worse the insurance! If thats not a concern for you, by all means INDULGE. You dont need us to convince you.
As for the 2 'other' cars you mentioned in your first post.. I like the Legacy.
I'll be right here with ya Ceasar.. hell you'll probably have a flux capacitor in yours by then!!

No, I'm not looking for the masses to endorse me getting a new ride... If I really wanted a new ride, it would be parked in my driveway right now. I do like the maxima and as I have said before... I think I'm just bored with it. Don't you ever get that feeling? I've had it for a little while now. Maybe I just need a new mod? Well, I am going to order some Cattman ES motor mounts and that should get me that lovin' feeling back again. Thanks for the replies people.

Now THATS what Im talkin about.. let me know how you like them, too! I got all the ES bushings in the front end, not sure I wanna go with the motor mounts though.. only cuz I heard a lot of complaints about engine vibrations after the fact. I do hear what yer saying.. I modded my Max with such quickness, that now that Im where I wanted to be, I feel like 'thats it?!'. I just picked up a MEVI though.. so let the good times continue! LoL

I've had the Maxima since 1999, I got it for my wife (that's why it's auto). There is really no reason to get rid of it, it's a fun daily driver. The wife has the new, family car that I can depend on for trips. If I replaced the Maxima that would just absorb the mod money for the Z32. So continue to build the Z into a Porsche eating monster and drive the 4th gen for my daily, or get a new car..... hmmmm ........ Porsche eating Z car wins.

As far as poly bushing go, I'm running sway bar, lower sub frame mounts, and sway bar end links. I'm going to run with the motor mounts and I will do the control arm bushing set the same time. Saves on shipping....
I really don't have any 3.5 stuff to speak of. Stock motor with udp and stillen hai.
I took her (at least I think it's a her, the car that is) for a rip around town with some spirited driving. Nothing over the speed limit but it was very fast to get to the limit. I hit some of the more agressive corners and I have to say it was nice. I'm going to keep her and throw some more money into it.
00vi or mevi will come sometime this winter I think.
And if I had a Porsche eating Z car as my second car, my first car would be a 600 dollar piece of crap. Our other car is my wife's MazdaSpeed Protege. Its a 2003.5 and we just picked it up over last Christmas. That thing can friggen handle, but that's for another thread....
That car makes me want a turbo soooo bad, but with all the labour and parts... big bucks. At least the VQ motor can handle decent amounts of boost without any major problems from what I have read. 6-8 psi. What I want and what I get are usually 2 different things...

Insurance is low, New car payment wouldnt suite me very well. I like my 160 a month. I havent received that "bored" feeling yet, Ive only had it for 1 1/2 years. Versatility of mods, great sleeper, it has 4 doors. The fact that it has a near 50/50 weight distribution like a sports car.The fact that I can turn this car into a beast with the The fact that I am the only one with a maxima like mine around here. Most have 20's and not lowered or are stock. I plan to keep this one just as long if not longer than the 7 years I had my 88 maxima. I feel the same way though, if you have to be talked into keeping the max or get some reasons why not to sell, then its time for you to jump on that boat.

Sounds good.. keep her around for a bit. I have the sway bar bushing, links, and control arm bushings all done in ES urethane. Very nice, totally diminished my wheel hop and responsiveness is great. Right now I have NO complaints on that spectrum and no vibrations from the motor, so Im content. I'll be installing my MEVI in the next few weeks.. looking forward to that. After that, I am really looking forward to start stacking parts for boost.
Seems the only way to go from here, for me. I love the car, and with the amount of money I already have invested into it, it would be silly of me to go and get into another car, when all mine really NEEDS is boost. Im at roughly 270hp (after the MEVI install).

im broke, too many things to pay so i cant afford a newer car. either way if i had the money, ill just put more mods into it. i find the 4th gen good looking enought and you know she could look amazing wit a stillen kit, drop and wheels. she's reliable, comfy, fairly luxury (doesnt feel like a civic) and has the potencial to go fast.

My reasons:
Money, not sure what else id want (i have ideas, just too many of them to narrow down to one car) good in snow, for non racing, its got plenty of power, VQ, i dont worry about blasting on it on a freezing cold night to make it to the firehouse, and knock on wood mines been pretty reliable.
Reasons i want to get rid of it: **Its an auto**, FWD, not the best interior...but its ok, even though its been reliable, it still has its problems...im not looking forward to replacing that front cross member.
Overall, I like the car alot, if i had been intellegent and bought a 5 speed i would like it alot more, but with what ive done to it (CAI, cattman muffler, new plugs and pretty much all other maitenece, new stereo and speakers, Valentine one custom install, custom emergency light install, custom radio install, tints, wheels, cefiros, and other things im sure im forgetting. Its got 105k on it (aprox) the tranny has been auto-rx'd and now uses mobil one ATF, so thats shifting great. The engine is the original VQ, now uses mobil one, Pennzoil Platinum, or German Castrol, so that runs great, overall the car treats me well so i figure ill hang on to it for a while.
PS to the OP, good idea for a thread, i like it.

Its the perfect car for the price range that i could afford when i was buying this car. Next 4dr DD will be a BMW 540i 6spd. To me thats the only thing that could be better than the max for just a few thousand more. Until than the Maxima is fun, its comfortable for me I'm a big guy at 6"4', reliable(which for me is very important since my other car is a Supra.
#104
I own it, it was only 3500 to buy and it gets me around. my only complaint is that its not very fuel efficient with gas prices shooting through the roof (you'll see how gas prices are after the summer's over) and the fact that my transmission isn't standard. : ( boo for automatic.

Finally, someone who has his priorities right!
1. It's paid for;

Also, what I drive is to please me, not to try and impress people I hardly know, and sometimes don't even like.

I agree...NO CAR PAYMENTS!!
Basically, I hate debt, so anything that helps me stay debt free is good in my opinion. What's keeping me from upgrading and paying cash is paying off my student loans and saving for a house.

Good luck with a reliable 540i. Unless you are mechanically inclined(read professional) Get ready to shell out big money. (And this is coming from a guy who loves bimmers). That was supposed to be my next car there are too many unknowns with that car.
As for me I just got the car so far I'm liking it(coming out of a 6th gen) plan to keep it for a while

1. NO CAR PAYMENT!
2. people look at my car and still give me compliments on how good it looks. i have upgraded it with custom tires/wheels, HID, and now looking to get a double-din navi/radio system. with that said, i don't really need to get a NEW car per se, my car has everything in it another luxury car would (minus some of the other bells and whistles)
3. my car is old, but the body style is just so gangster!

The biggest reason for me is the nice engine. Even after 9 years, it is still pretty quick.
It still travels back and forth from the Bay Area to L.A. and San Diego several times a year. Other than the A/C compressor failing, it had been a very reliable car.
Recently it got a new set of KYBs (basic non-adjustable) and a set of 16 inch Michelin Primacy MXV4 is on order. Wheels are from A33. No mods on the engine but it has Garmin GPS, Nokia BT handsfree and a MonsterCable iCruze iPod interface.

looks nice. I just finished with the claybar, and 3 step cutter, polish, wax. I gotta say... when that car is clean, she looks awesome. I'll try to post some pictures later. I'm going to keep the Maxima. I've got too much money in it now to consider a trade. Even if I did trade it in on a new one, how long would it be before I got the modding bug again. A couple of months I'm sure. I can hit the maxima with a few hundred here and there to improve it and make it wicked. Or... just spend it owning a car that is going to be in the same state as this one in a few years.

We're talking to the crank: Take yer basic VQ, add an upgraded ECU, catless Ypipe, Intake, Exhaust, MEVI.. advance the timing, tune. Sitting around 265, crankwise.
Do you disagree?

I guess though if you take your 265 and take away 24% for drivetrain loss you get a number that is around 201 wheel hp. Yes, with that number I understand how you came up with 265.

basically i dont really have the money for a new car... yet.
but this is my first car. ive put at least $2-3k into it (mods and maintanence). and i go touge with this thing. it rocked my friend's rsx up and downhill cuz of the massive torque that the VQ produces hahaha. gotta love it for its sleeper car status. ive blown away countless civics who think my "family sedan" isnt fast ha!
im thinking of getting the 07 impreza >_<
i feel like im betraying my maxima T_T
