Sluggish Pickup.

I've noticed since i last drove my buddy's 2000 max, that mine isn't picking up as it should. I have a 98 SE

-First gear, goes no problem, but when i put in second gear, it feels like all power drops as if i put it in 4th gear. it picks up after i hammer it a bit. I find this quite unusual. Anybody have an idea what the problem might be? I know the clutch is fine, because it doesnt slip going up hill. pulls very strong. maybe i need a timing adjustment?

-My tranny feels a little stiff. Feels as though i'm not pushing the clutch down enough, so i sometimes have to apply a little more pressure. Again, i didnt notice how bad it was till i tried my buddy's. His is very smooth, and can pretty much shift with one finger. Mine, i'm having a problem shifting with one hand! Is this normal?

-Also i my clutch feels like its too close to the floor. Like my buddy's is way up there, and you have to give it a good stepping to for it to reach the floor. I stall more often than i would on a normal car (and i know my shifting, thank you) Am i just paranoid, or is there something seriously wrong with my ebony girl.

-Another thing, when i'm just cruising between 1500-2000 rpm, i hear a sort or humming/whinning sound coming from the engine. Its not coming from the stereo i know for sure because i had it off. its not loud, and easy to miss if you punch it past that rpm.

-Any idea what might be going on before i take it for a diag?

PLEASE HELP!!

1. First of all you shouldnt have posted it in the suggestions forums.
2. you should have used the search tool "free search" to look for a similar problem.
3. There is a 4th generation forum also. http://forums.maxima.org/forumdisplay.php?f=9

I'd make a comment, but for the sake of being a matured person i'd hold it back.

What the idiot no life having org members are trying to tell you is.... To go and read the stickies first I believe it says to do this while you're signing up for the site, but no one reads it. The stickies are full of information, useful links, and pictures for the car. Once you get done reading through them you probably have an 85% chance that your car will run just as good as buddies maxima. Make sure you do all the normal maintenance of your car. I'm under the assumption your check engine light is off but it'll be a good idea to search through the stickies about the very famous knock sensor issue which doesn't turn on check engine light, but if it isn't working well, it will make your car sluggish. The clutch pedal can be adjusted which I'm pretty certain it is also in the stickies. Considering your car is about 10 years old it might be a good idea to replace the clutch fluid with DOT3 brake fluid. For your tranny issues try replacing the tranny oil with GL-4 spec oil. Places to buy this oil can be found in the fluids section stickies.

Back on topic...I say check the ECU for codes and if a KS code is present...there is your problem. It will not trip the SES light and will retard timing.

stardust has always strived to show his impeccably thick sense of humour, or is that an obtuse way of caring for a person who's got 5 posts ?

Hey, i spoke with a mechanic about clutch and tranny, and he advised of the same procedure. Drain and replace with the same fluids. lol.

I'll go read the stickies now

Since i cannot post anywhere and i am in desperate need of Help. So here it goes.

- 1995 Maxima
- Misfire almost 3 weeks back since then Vibration started + RPM went low + Engine Check light
- Had Tune Up Done Last Week. (New Plugs + filters etc)
- Ignition Coil OK. Cylinder #4 looks like having issues.
- All the igintion coil working fine in all the cylinders but when you plug those Ignition Coils in Cylinder #4 you don't get any response.
- Checked ECU code it was 0505 - (No Failure Recorded/Detected)
- Reset ECU and now check engine light is gone.
- Put some high quality Injector Cleaner. Now the ride is a bit smooth but the power/Acceleration is not their as it used to. Also Vibrates at low speed.

Any Suggestions and Guidance would be really appreciated. Thanks in Advance.

use a stechescope or screwdriver to listen for the injector clicking on cylinder #4, check voltage, ohms. And there is a newbie thread titled "i am new here but have a question"
