Is this a suspension issue?
Hey all i have a 1996 Nissan Maxima with 233,000 Miles on it. I like it alot.. it is a step up from my Ford Contour. Any how I am having some issues maybe someone can help me figure them out I have stock 15 inch rims with stock struts and springs.,.. I will list the issues:
1) Whenever i go over a pot hole or steel grate my car voilentley shakes and seems as if it wants to go every direction except the one i am trying to get it to go to. I feel every bump and every vibration.
2) WHen every two people are sitting in the back seat i can feel the bump very loud.. almost as if it is bottoming out.. it is embarrasing
3) when i hit a bump i hear a sqeaking niose in the rear. It is very loud.
Any help please... I am in NYC not usre when work needs to be done.. if i cant get a smooth rise.. imma just sell it for like 2000 or something.

With 233,000 on the car, alot of your suspension components are probably near the end of their life (LCA bushings, Outer tie rods, inner tie rods, end links, ex, ex... All 4 of your struts and suspension components that go along with your struts)
If you plan on keeping the car, it might not be a bad idea to look into changing some or all of the suspension components. If not, get soemthing newer.
Things wear out over time. The car is going on 11 years old, alot of the rubber components are nearing the end.

If u take it to a shop...I'd guess over a $1000, but for that much money u can use the stickies and free search and do it yourself with performance upgrades. You haven't put anything in maintaining ur susp so all the little knick knacks on MATTY's list plus springs and strut/shocks will add up - plus labor. While ur at it might as well add the energy susp LCA bushings, endlinks, and sway.
You can pretend you're shopping around for a shop... goto couple shops, ask them to do a visual inspection and a verbal quote on what needs to be changed, estimated parts, and estimated labor. Visit a few shops, see what they say, then report back to us. We'll be able to tell you where to buy the parts and how to install them. Maybe another member can help you install them too. Good luck!
