Recall- 1996 SE

Recall- 1996 SE
Well... Just got my car back from the Nissan Dealer. Had my recall work done which consisted of:
front & rear o2 sensors
evap control valve
EGR valve
and a couple of other things.
all at no cost.
I notice a little bit smoother acceleration and a harder pull. The car has 200k and the dealer worked with me no problem. For those of you who haven't checked yet, you should check and see if this recall exists and has been done on you're car, I believe it was on most of the '96 Maxima's, maybe some '95's , its worth a try for some free parts.

it started when I was running codes for my check engine light. One of the codes came up as a bad "evap control valve" so I looked it up on the .org and a bunch of stuff came up as it being a possible recalled item. No matter if there is wear and tare or if its brand new, its still a bad unit. Its got to be replaced just because it is faulty/recalled.
by the way my CEL light is still on but its probably due to the fact that its pulling a million ghost codes, not a big deal I guess.

This is the only recall in 4th gen history as far as i know:
NHTSA Recall History
1997-98: One of the diodes in the alternator may be damaged and could fail, leading to an electrical short which could melt the plastic housing.
never heard of this recall on o2 sensors and evap stuff, should call my dealer again, cause i did, when i just bought the car before i was a member here, i called and gave them my vin and they said no recalls apply to my vehicle...

I tried this BS, same thing I pulled a code found it was a recall whent to the dealer, they basically told me "dont let the door hit you where the good Lord split you". I callled Nissan they said my cars VIN is old and had tobe pulled from archive, "call back in 3-4 days well have it", like a f'n idiot I called just to hear, "Im sorry sir we coulndt find te recall found for your VIN are you sure it was recalled", I give her the recall notice number, "she said it didnt exist". F' EM. (My car only had 95k when I tried that bs)
On a side note good for you for finding a dealer to get this done for you.

Here's a scenario that I use when helping friends buy cars: call up local dealership, tell them you are about to buy a car and also looking for a dealership to perform maintenance after purchasing the car. Ask them to look up the VIN and note any recalls or major TSB's, tell them the mileage of your car and ask if there's any patterns they've noticed w/your kinda car. Common things they'll tell you are the 99 coils suck, or they see a lot of oil pressure sensor leaks. In the case of my friend's 350z, they told us about the messed up tire treadwear. Good info to kno anyways.

we had this recall done on our 96 under recall at the dealer last month or 2....partially because we (my girl and i) got the ill hookups at nissan...awesome service, all parts at cost, free next day...you now how we do . most dealers will just tell you no because they dont wanna spend time doing warranty work.

I got a new alternator at like 100k in 2003 shortly after I bought my car. I brought it in for one of those "100 point checkup" deals and they said "oh by the way we put in a new alternator because there was a recall". Sweet.

ba-loney, i allready did most of this crap outta my own pocket. and my evap valve whines somedays but stops when i open the gas cap and release the air. i got news for you guys, the dealer said to me " absoulutley no warranty recalls for the 95's except the gauge clusters went bad and if your vehicle has'nt had that replaced then give us your vin and we'll look up your history. sure enough it was replaced under warranty back in 96, but at that time it was under warranty from the dealer and the recall had'nt been established as of yet. and btw, i replaced it again with another cluster 10,000 miles ago ( 3rd one )
