HELP!!!!!!! I broke it!!!!!!!!
HELP!!!!!!! I broke it!!!!!!!!
Okay so I was reinstalling my ftsb and 1 of the 3 bolts broke off while I was tighting it. The same happened on the other side. What should I do? My suspension is 2/3 bolted on for each side. Im scared to hit bumps.
lol note to people who dont reguarly work on cars. when tightening a bolt/nut:
1) hand thread it for the most part so you dont cross-thread as easy
2) DONT TIGHTEN EVERYTHING AS TIGHT AS YOU POSSIBLY CAN. they have torque specs for a reason.
youll be fine, but if you wanna fix it you will be needing new front strut mounts. its not really a big deal.

buying the strut mount will not get you that piece. It's the strut isolating bracket that mounts up from below the strut mount. Don't just ask for the strut mount. You need to make sure you are getting the piece with the studs. In fact you may be able to just replace a stud instead of that whole piece. I don't know for sure though because I can not look at it now.

thats called a strut mount.
. you should probably know what you are talking about before you correct someone who replaces strut mounts semi-daily.
ouch...umm maybe a ghetto jb weld just to connect some of the metal together because it seems like your next best option is to just go buy new strut towers and i dont think youll wanna do that. also if your strut bar is on it might hold your shocks in place a little better, that way theyll have something to kinda lean on if a ton of stress is added to them. no more auto xing for you. my .02

Link to the part, costs ~$18 at courtesy - http://www.courtesyparts.com/betasit...-p-133669.html
hitting bumps is fine..no problem..just don't go over a ramp that will cause ur whole car to come off the ground......but i'd get it fix asap...also....in order for the studs to come out...i believe ur gonna need to rent a spring compressor since the spring pushes the stud up and you would be able to bang it out without compressing the spring. Correct me if i'm wrong tho...
good for courtesy nissan. you ask anyone with basic/advanced automotive knowledge what its called and they will say strut mount. you ask someone for a "strut mounting isolator bracket" they will probably look at you like youre a retard.
do you call a downpipe a front pipe, flex section? does it really matter what the technical term is? everybody will know what you are talking about.

, spring compressor needed to remove the strut mount. Not that difficult of a job, made especially easy with use of an impact to zip the compressor down quickly.BTW, nice i30.

I call a downpipe a downpipe, and in common usage (at least around here) that would be the exhaust leading from the turbine housing of a turbo, I would consider what we have to be a y-pipe. Front pipe would work as well, given the person you were talking to was aware that the context is the exhaust system.
Some parts guys won't know what you mean when you say strut mount, or they will give you the entire strut assembly with everything on there. Not everyone knows what everyone's talking about, so yes, the 'technical' (i.e. proper) term is necessary for some parts.
You speak like I offended you in some way by simply posting a part and what the proper name is. Calm down.

Some people have problems understanding terms/ things that are foreign to them, and cannot assimilate like the rest of us. They protect there fragile ego's by verbally bashing or offending people that are just trying to help someone.
Seriously, if you don't have a piece of kind or useful advice, don't post it.
The bottom line is, it's called whatever Nissan decided to call it. That is just how it is.

Thanks for all the input guys. Im gonna try to have this fixed on sat. My strut bar is still on and tight. I can't even re use my lug nut because the piece of the broken bolt is stuck in them.
Oh btw, can we stop the fighting!!!! Lolz, we're all in the same maxima family. Have a beer and just chill out.

yeah back in the day when i had my mk3 supra, i didnt like ti when people with n/a cars used the term downpipe..because downpipe is what pmohr described it as.
nissasn technical terms used in the FAST program are misleading. some parts guys know what there talkin about some dont, so you will have to use the full actual name the FAST program uses. I was actually in the parts dept. for 3-4 months so i am well aware of the names. the FAST program is nissans parts program for those who arent aware.
anyhow the rule of thumb it seems with automotive related things under 18mm. dont tighten it as hard as you can, for most things esp 8-12mm snug + half a turn is usully enough, but there are manuals for a reason with torque specs. remember especially for suspension related parts that are prone to movement, if you over tighten it, they tend to stretch, when it stretches the nut can come loose, and then the bolt/stud breaks, this is overly common on wheel studs. people think they need to torque the wheels of there car to 150+ ftlbs because "the tighter the better" according to some people. this guy came into my work with a 05 maxima and he sheared off 4 out of the 5 with the factory tire wrench, we thought the guy must have be massive to do it, when he came in to pick it up, the guy was like the incredible hulk, towered over my 6ft freind and must have weighed about 275lbs..he was RIPPED.
