I think my calipers are also on the way out. The front inside brake pads look brand new, while the outside pads are almost down to the warning tabs. Is this a sign of caliper problems or something else?

Either the caliper pins are frozen or the caliper piston is not completely free.

Check to see if the inside pad is stuck in the retainers (sheet metal). It should go in and out of the retainers freely.

Take the wheel of and take a look. You can see what the caliper and pads are doing just by hand turning the rotor.

when my right rear caliper went, it would drag, and would not let me turn the piston in when I went to replace the pads. The good news is a new rebuilt one was only like $75

sounds like the caliper was stuck in a compressed state. i had this problem in my 93 SE. i think it was under 100 to get the new setup.

I just did this last weak, my rear driver side was seized and caused a lot of rubbing. Finally the pads wore down and it was metal on metal, then the rotors went because the high heat cause cracking and they finally broke down into little peices. Had to replace everything. Moral of the story, dont wait, buy a rebuilt caliper now. Dont forget to bleed the brakes after you replace it.

Check for uneven wear on the pads, that's a sure sign of a worn caliper. If they're just stuck... there's a chance it could be the pins. Just take them out, clean them, re-grease them (and the shaft they go into) with HIGH TEMPERATURE grease and put everything back together.

caliper pins most likely because the rubber boots are crap. water get in easily becasue its so low to the ground and by a wheel and rust forms when the car is not moving.

its a known issue

the trick is finding the right grease solution to properly lubricate the pins as well as repel water!

PS: Braking is critical, its life and death, that would be my first concern on any car i own.

you can jack up your car with the e brake pulled up, and try to rotate the tire. if the tire spins then the caliper is most likely seized.

I recently changed out my rotors and pads in the front and I'm having the same feeling like when the car is just washed.

I only hear it when I'm coming to a full complete stop at the end. If I let go of the brake pedal slowly I can reproduce the sound.

Is this normal or does it take time for it to go away??
