So it's the same RE4F, just different electronics? What if you swap out the solenoids / VB w/ solenoids?

Just a Question: A tranny from a 2000-2001 would be a closer match, right?

I had an '01 4AT in my '95 for a little bit until it grenaded, but the solenoids are different I believe. There's a subharness between the solenoids and the engine harness on the '01, but my '95 (and the TSB solenoid kit) it goes straight to the engine harness from the solenoids. Removed that, threw in my VB and solenoids, worked perfectly until the forward clutches welded themselves together.

Pretty sure alot of the tranny is different, I am told the internals looks totally different.

I'll be putting a 2004 AT in my 97. However, I'll be using the 2004 ECU and TCM also. Here's some pics of the 2004 AT which should be the same as 2002:

Connectors

Where the VSS from your A32 will be mounted

Inhibitor Assembly

Anyway, I think you'd be OK just changing out the external controls from the A32 to the A33 AT. The case looks the same, but be sure your A32 parts function correctly.

Only if it's one of the uncommon 4AT automatic in '04, most were 5AT. I believe only early '04 SLs had 4AT? Not quite sure. If it's a 5AT then even with the TCM I don't think it would work, between trans mounts and the shift linkages.

Did they tell you '04 or A33? A33 is '00-'01, '04+ is A34.

I35 was available in 2004 MY, it was the end of the A33 line. Maybe A34 Max began in 2004 as the I35 was sidelined?

Well if it's from an '04 Max, then it's an A34. From an '04 I35, then an A33B.

from the posts looks like it will not work, it's a 5at

question if I still wanted to make this work I would have to a 3.5motor, 5at tranny and both the engine and tranny controller along with the harness
