Coal-pack vover
If you want to save a few bucks, I can tell you for a fact that 5 years ago I used WalMart cheap paint (Banner Red) for about $1.50, and the paint still looks perfect. No need for HiTemp paint. If it got that hot, they would not have used plastic on the cover. Trust me on this one.

To do the cover: I disconnected and disassembled what I could from the timing cover (including the mount). Used brake cleaner to eliminate any oily substances to help adhesion. Then sanded/ wire brushed the cover, taped everything off that was not to be painted black (also used old T-shirts for larger/ more complicated areas such as hoses, intake etc.) then Engine Enamel gloss black and Engine Enamel clear coat...3 coats of each. I also did the rear valve cover the same way since I could see some of it and didn't like it not matching. I wax it when I wax the car to boot. (Wax - Liquid Glass) ...OCD FTW

yo sutter, what do you use to clean it up with, i have used that degreaser in the white and orange can but it never looked as clean as yours and are you suppose to shut the car off when washing or leave it running?

Looks good, how did you get your hoses and wire harness so clean and shiney looking, armorall? I like how your intake manifold isn't polished, just clean. You use a degreaser like simple green or you have another method? I tried simple greening my heads and intake manifold and i doesn't help at all to bring it back to that new car look.

Coil Cover: Glass cleaner (you can try degreaser on a small part first and make sure it doesn't strip the paint.)
Here's a little ditty about Cleaning up My friend Josh's Timing and Coil Covers:
Cleaned and disassembled (Valve Cover already painted black)
Coil Cover painted white (His is Arctic White Pearl)
Prepped to paint Timing Cover
Tape removed from Coil Cover
Almost finished

You bought the High Heat, the 1500 deg paint correct? That stuff is WAY over kill. Your Engine will not exceed the regular 500 degrees limit of the regular Engine Enamel. (Esp for anything other than an exhaust manifold - Even then they only get to about 750 or so). Just make sure you clean/ prep the surface every well and you will never have a problem with paint chipping or "fish eye" (a flaw when painting onto a surface contaminated with oily substance that resembles a fish's eye-if that happens, stop painting, let dry thoroughly, and sand lightly with 600 and respray).
The "High Heat" paint is for headers or brakes mainly, and even then it usually doesn't stick after the surface reaches its max temp. But it does come VERY flat b/c gloss paint has a hard time adhering to something of that heat range. I know what you were thinking, I have done the same, "go with the better for the price." But I got screwed like you did as my outcome didn't meet my expectations.

i bought the 500 degree duplicolor for my supercharger piping. same one as yours. i even used clear coat on top. duplicolor= piece of **** paint. it was so dull, i went and bought krylon black for plastic and slapped on 4 layers on top of the dupli. its shinny as hell now. all duplicolor products suck.

Carbon Fiber doesnt work well on our cars unless the car is black. And honestly c/f even on civics and stuff is so unoriginal, and limited. You cant c/f the lids to your fluids, or your valve cover. Paint allows more combinations, and its cheaper.

Thats like saying the engine is under the hood so dont clean it. Keep your things looking good. I would never do anything to my car that looks out of place, and a cf coil cover is out of place on a maxima. Do the work, paint it, keep it looking good, forget the cf, save the money and get something worthwhile like a short throw or new shift boots.
