HELP HELP HELP Maxima overheating need a quick fix

basically the car overheats. at 1st it was only when i drove 80mph or more and had AC all the way up. now also its when im just drive a lot. takes like 30min to show. SOOO for the quick fix i want 1st take the thermostat out and for 2nd make my fans run all the time. for the thermostat in the repair guide its sayz "The water inlet pipe and the thermostat are an integrated unit, and must be replaced as an assembly." but i think there re 2 bolts holding the thermostat inside. can i take it out? or maybe its a wrong thing im lookin at? the thermostat located on the timing chain cover? or by the trani? and for the fans i know i just have to disconnect the sensor, but im not sure which one. cmon guyz help me out here plz.

if your car overheats at 80mph you have bigger problems than you think you do. At this speed your engine RPM should be driving the water pump enough to keep the engine at proper temperature when its coupled with the air flow coming in through the grille.

You need a thermostat to keep the seal in the thermostat housing. What I would do is get a lower temp themostat, back flush the radiator and heater core, and bleed the system. Make sure your fans are functioning. Both of them. If you still have problems you might have a corroded water pump.

^^^^ as stated above, try that and I bet it will fix your problem. If it is still overheating, I would suggest water pump as well.

May be a stupid question, but have you checked your coolant level? At the very least top it off before you go anywhere. That's what I do, mine burns about 1, 1.5 gallons of coolant on a 10 mile drive. Annoying to say the least.

Putting a new motor in this weekend, though.

Just sell/give the car away. You do not deserve to own it.

Check for leaks. Your radiator might be leaking or it could be the hoses. Any change in coolant level? Check the radiator cap, if you touch the black rubber molding and it leaves a mark on your finger then buy a new one. Then replace the thermostat. It should be where the lower radiator hose meets the engine on most cars. Check your fans, make sure they are kicking in.

Do all that first then post up your results and maybe we can figure something out.

this happened to my civic. needless to say i still drove it.

1600$ later and a blown head gasket i learned my lesson to keep my eye on the heat gauge and if it even goes slightly above the resting spot (that spot right below half), i get paranoid as a mother ****er.

Then fix it right. A quick fix is only going to lead to more problems later. Pulling your thermostat is not a proper fix.

D"max04, sounds like you need a head gasket. the white smoke is from coolant leaking into your motor and burning up.

You freakin noobs are all the same. You want a cheap easy answer to everything and then you whine whine whine when your cheap ebay parts and quick fixes don't do anything for you. And everyone wonders why no major companies want to make aftermarket parts for the Maxima. Bunch of cheap, no wrench turning, shortcut taking, whining pansy's like you is why. No where in the U.S. can you legally drive on a public road at 80mph, so just do the speed limit for a couple days and then give your 'friend' your POS car and don't come back here.

Hope you don't plan on selling the car with that problem. I would suggest fixing it outright the first time around to avoid any complications later.

There's still 85 areas in connecticut I believe. But yeah, turning fans on high all the time and removing the thermostat isn't going to help, what else would you like us to say?
