Hey I did an engine swap in a 01 max so basically the same as a 4th gen and this forum gets read more and I also have a 4th gen max. But anyway why does my speedometer and odometer not work? what could some reasons be? everything else is fine, no check engine lights, nothing. it worked fine before the swap so i am pretty sure its not the dash itself. please help me out thanks!

 

check the meter fuse, and the vehicle speed sensor

 

u gotta plug in the cable that the speedo/odo reads off of. it plugs into the top of the tranny case by the firewall. mihgt of came loose during install.??

 

yup that was it! well the part but not the problem. The infiniti tranny just had a metal plate covering that hole. So I just went back to the maxima tranny and took the sensor out and switched them. I guess the infiniti I30 has a different speed sensor? which is kind of weird, but true. Thanks man

hate to dig up an old thread - but I had a similar problem with no gauges during my clutch swap this weekend - I had NO gauges or warning lights because my meter fuse kept blowing... I pinched my neutral/reverse switch between the tranny and tranny mount... google brought me to this - but it wasn't much help, had to troubleshoot on my own this time

SOOOOO... if you are looking for why your meter fuse keeps blowing, check your neutral/reverse switch....
