header install write-up

I was wondering if anyone knew the location of a write up for header install on a 4th gen. I am looking for something to help walk me through it, hopefully take care of a couple headaches.

Umm, it's pretty strait fwd. Your going to need a good set of tools with plenty of extensions and swivels. Remove the heat shields, remove the headers, install the new ones. Pretty simple, just time consuming.

the rear motor mount was dropped when i did mine.. remove the mount.. lower the engine.. make it more accessible.. doing it right is pivotal... make sure the header is in right.. dont strip any bolts and be sure the header lines up exactly with the gasket and to the manifold... a leaking exhaust header throws cels and.. its just bad.. do it right and dont try and ram your hands up there............

Ummm .... just pull the 3L and while it's out, pop the headers on a 3.5 then re-mount! lol Sorry ... j/k. I know it seems tight, but I helped a mate of mine do his. We did drop the rear mount to make room and it helped much. Be sure to use a jack (with a piece of wood on it) under the rear part of the engine. Best if you have a long extension and swivle for a few of them.

G'luck!

Which headers do you have???

The EGR tube is difficult. Here's what I did. Loosen the huge nut of the EGR tube where it goes into the engine/manifold. Now you have some flexiblity with the EGR tube. Then try to get the EGR tube and nut threaded where the tube goes into the header. Once threaded, tightened up both nuts. If all else fails, just bend the EGR tube. I'm sure things aren't lining up ever so slightly. A slight bend will take care of your problem.

Keep in mind my intake manifold was off (I chose to work from above and not remove the center bracing under the car) thus making the EGR part easier.

well, i removed everything, i had the im and the engine brackets off. Now the headers are on and it just comes down to the egr tube. Its actually pretty far off and i was thinkin maybe i could substitute rubber hose for the metal one. Would this work or will it blow out? The headers are xs power

I would think the rubber would melt. Not a good idea IMO. Sucks that it's that far off. Got a pic??

finsihed!! finally done with install. i had to rig up a section to get the egr tube to fit, well see how long that lasts. but thanks for the input guys. seemed to take forever. The tone is a little deeper, cant wait to get the rest of the exhaust done.

Good to hear. You should post pics/do a mini writeup to help future XS Power header installers deal with the EGR tube.

He deleted his old thread bump question. FTL

The headers on my A33B were purchased from a member that had them installed on an A32.

1.) Depends on the headers
2.) No headers were ever made exclusively for the DEK in an A33 chassis
3.) HS headers did in fact have some clearance issues w/ the AC compressor
4.) Read the header thread in the AM section, a lot of valuable & informative pics / posts, etc.
