I just wanna know. I think its about 6 hrs. labor according to the book. The $819 includes parts and labor, with tax...$869.
Ouch.

Based on 6 hours I don't think that sounds too bad.

6 hrs @ 80 = $480
CLutch $300?
Fluids $40
$820

Sweet. Thats what I was thinking, too. I just wasnt sure if the 6 hrs by the book sounded right. It sucks they wont let me supply the clutch cause I can get an Exedy for about $150. Imma call one other place and see if they are close to the same price and maybe they'll let me supply the part.
Anybody know if they need to change the gear oil??? I ask because 2 weeks ago I just replaced my old ish with Redline =[ Hope that wasnt a waste.

Damn labor is high up north. Most places around here charge $50 an hour here. I agree with others, there are lots of places that should allow you to bring your own parts. Some may say that the work will not be warrantied if they don't use THEIR parts. Which is stupid

Update. I found a place that'll let me supply the part and they'll do it for $650 Im thinking exedy stage 1 clutch.
Whats up with the tranny fluid? Do you think they need to replace it?

If you supply the parts, that means $650 is just for labor.

That is ridiculously high.

Im in NY and i payed 850-900ish three years ago. To be honest i would never have a shop do it again, especially if i provide parts, they conveniently forget to replace parts, like the throwout bearing(they left in the old one), now only 45,000miles later i have to go do it myself because the TOB is causing major issues(stiff clutch pedal, not always engaging).

Dude!! That fkn sucks! Sry, to hear that. I dont have much of a choice. I am somewhat mechanicaly inclined but def dont have tools, a garage or the proper know how. I am at the mercy of using a shop.

Dude...$550 for clutch AND install is a steal!!!! Ive been researching a little bit and around here (tri state area) Going rate seems to be $700-$1000. Wow...Im def gonna go Exedy stage 1 so I can beat the max up a little and not have to worry about the clutch failing after a few months.

I think i paid $250 (can't remember exactly but it was more than $200) for the stock 5th gen clutch from nissan then paid the shop 370 for installation and a new flywheel. This was just last week. So it's a lil more expensive over there in ur area but i guess u dont have many options either. That may be the reason for it being more expensive.

The 5th gen clutch is less than $150 online. Labor shouldn't be much more than $400.....

Name a shop that does it for that...PLEASE!! Martins Auto (off of Olden) is the one that gave me that quote. Now, Im taking it to Jules in Morrisville, next week because they will let me supply the clutch. They still want $600 for the job, though.

2 thinks First of all a cluth job is $300 for labor and $300 clutch i would supply my own throw in like a stage 1 or 2 can get it cheaper then $300. So at most this should run u $600 not no $850 i would rather do it my self then.

I usually only charge about $200 labor and I never make anything off the 5th gen exedy for $130 either, but I geuss I can't complain, a clutch job on a max once you've done it countless times really only takes 2 hr's of work.

I paid about $250 for my 5th gen clutch (including shipping), but that also included a bunch of seals and bearings that they'd have easy access to. Got my parts at EverythingNissan.com. I had a shop do the job for about $400, which included resurfacing the flywheel. I also supplied them with Redline MT90 tranny fluid. I'm happy with the job they did.

I called around the area to get quotes, and asked them if they'd match the best one and they did. I think their original quote was about $500.

Why on earth would any shop warranty defective parts that the customer brings in?

The shop that did my clutch job warranted my clutch install. I supplied the factory sealed genuine Nissan parts.

Source of OEM clutch set

Is DaveB the best source of OEM clutch set? Mine started to slip a few time last week and with 104K, it may be time to change it. I am looking at the '00 set for my '97 and fortunately for me, labor will be $0 since I will do it with my father in law.
Thanks.

No, the oem 5th gen clutch is made by exedy and the identical one can be had much cheaper than if it comes in a nissan box, call speedsolutions, I've ordered a bunch of exedy clutches from them and it comes out to $120 shipped for a 95-01 exedy clutch, aka 5th gen. 562-905-3233

$819 doesn't sound too bad. My brother got the clutch replaced in his '96 for about that.

You guys pay way to much for labor. 18 of beer gets me any job done if i dont have the machines to do it myself. Mechanics normally make between 12 - 20 bucks an hour depending on level Any C or B tech would happily do this for you for under the quotes your finding.

If your going to buy the clutch you might as well go all the way and do the flywheel too.
You'll appreciate the performance!
(stage 2 nothing cracy)
