help, car dies when warm

'95, 165k miles, 5spd

car keeps dying right around five minutes after starting it up. problem occurs when idling at a stop light or when I take it out of gear. starting car back up is then difficult, taking around 5 turns of the key.

cel comes on but I can't pull the code because it goes off after I turn the key off then back on

help please!

edit: and oddly enough, problem only occurs once per trip and always at the same light near my house heh

Yes, it idles fine. However, if I start the car and let idle for five min or so it will cut off.

If the CEL is lit wouldn't the ECU have captured a code regardless of whether the CEL is on when you go to pull the code(s)? Your symptoms sound vaguely similar to what mine were even though I have a '97 SE Auto with 194K mi. My fix was MAF and IATS. Mine runs like a top once again.

That being said I'm in the camp with the MAP, IAVC and TPS.

I went to check the voltage on the maf and the harness when I noticed that the car would not rev past 2500 rpms. This is a definite sign that the maf is bad right?

Checked voltage for connection leading to maf and all was well. Decided to clean maf and problem seems to have gone away during test drive.

Well, I would add more but I don't know much of anything about cars, which is why I'm here besides the fact that I have a Maxima. Whenever I go up to Nissan to get my keyless entry I'll be sure to ask about the problem for you.

Oh, I know you car isn't a Dodge Caravan but this person seems to have a similar problem. I hope that this will at least give you a clue.

Heck, maybe you can find someone with a Maxima that has the same problem as you do.

That definitely sounds like the culprit.

correct. or it could have been a IACV. but since you established it the MAF like i said before then you should be good to go.
