Good question, this unit is located behind the carpeting on the right side of the trunk in my car, right in front of the hidden jack and the power antenna motor.

Why don't you pull the clips off and and see behind the carpeting if the appropriate connectors are there and if they match, because things may have changed 95/96 to 97/99

 

So does this mean it's possible to make a non-keyless entry 4th gen into having factory keyless entry?

The 97 I just bought didn't come w/ the package for that...

 

Well i dont know, but there are common cases that people on here have swappin in heated seat into a non heated max as well as fog lights. so this is very possible that the car came pre-wired for key less entry, but you will have to wait until users with knowledge of these facts chime in and let you know.

 

Yea that's what I've been thinking as well...

Does anyone know what the steps are for doing this and how it can be done? I can't stand using the key to open the car!!

too what Model is the Max, GLE, SE, or GXE

yeah SE's are striped no pre -wire its factory intalled or nothing. But see if the wires are there who knows?

what exactly would you like to find out about your car ?

If you need to know what model you have then thats simple, there many things you can check. The most definitive way is to to take your vin and look in the FSM for your year and decode the vin, that will tell you what model you have

If you are looking to find out something else then let me know

 

Wanna trade your '99 Keyless module for a spare '96 one?

As for what else you may need, if you have the module there already chances are you have everything else too - check under the carpet at the trunk latch for a brown relay, if it's there then you should be good to go!

 

There has to be someone out there that has made their Maxima that was not factory equipped w/ keyless entry into having OEM keyless entry.

I couldn't find the relay by the latch , don't know if it's on lid or the bottom latch part.

Ran into one thing
Under the hood, on the passenger finder Relay box, is the "Keyless 2" relay open or used?

Some one w/ factory keyless please check this for me.

My GXE came with keyless too... I don't think they made a 4th gen max that didn't come with it stock.

is the "keyless 2" relay spot used on your max Zachs?

 

Mine looks identical to the picture you posted. I have nothing in the keyless2 slot either.

 

I have a black relay in the Keyless2/Hazard slot. I think this relay is used by BCM to blink the hazard lights when you keyless lock your car.
