The best way to do flat black is what a spray gun. Then after about 2 layers of flat black you clear coat it and it comes out looking really clean. My friend had a Mr2 and he did it himself and looked pretty sweet.

I agree it wont look right, in fact i dont think maximas look good in even a gloss black unless very cleanly done. Im a firm believer that color choice is determined by the lines of the car, in the case of the maxima, i'd stick to lighter colors such as silver/gray, white, champagne/tan.

Honestly the best example of a good choice in color and matching exterior components(wheels, emblems, ect...) is in VIP's car. Everything flows very nicely in his car.

only one person on here understand what the hell im talking about

IYO...
black on black your car looks great, and if the max is such a nice car and too new then why is it that a black car is very luxurios looking and when people see a gorgoeus black car coming down the road it sticks out, well if its newer that is lol, and all of my rides are very cleanly done!

this is not flat black it's primer and uneven, flat black with a non-gloss clear coat should be fine. remember it's your car but IMO I would not do it less your current paint is crap

Here is another one,

Just looks unfinished. The max is too new of a car to pull of the flat black theme.
i agree that does look like s**t throw a couple clearcoats on there

just to clear this up it was understood that by flat (matte, semi-gloss, whatever you want to call it) the op meant 2 stage with a semi-gloss clear. most of the examples (not including the super cars) are primer, but it gives you an idea of what it would look like. i think we can all agree this is not the way to go.

his paint was crap, and it actually is primed with the flat black. the car kept getting hit, not his fault, and he had to buy new parts, so he just left it as it is right now. sooner or later he will finish the paint job.

Should look pretty good if you do it right and not just use primer.

THAT'S what I'm talking about!!!! I posted a thread about this in the 5th gen forums, and I decided to to the "matte" not "flat" gunsmoke metallic with no/ Mr. & Mrs. Smith BMW M5 offset stripe (no, I'm not a I thought it'd look classy only being 2 or three shades darker than my paint) That is unless, we ever get 5.5 gen FI, then, I'm all over it. That is an awsome pic, exactly the glean I'm looking for, still shines, but no reflection. It's very different, in a nice way.

There's heaps of them here its almost boring to see one.

Typical saying goes "Oh no - not another skankline".

uhhhh..... no. 2 things: .... ok 3 really.

1. Look, after 10 years our cars are starting to get old. You paint it flat black it's gonna look old and recovered from a theft.
2. painting ANYTHING flat is hard to do. It always shows spray patterns and overlaps. That's why clear coat is so nice.
3. WHY?

Flat black as you possibly can with no bells whistle or antthing of the sort. Remember the Millennium Falcon from Star Wars? Remember its not about image its about the sleeper as functionallity. Lets meditate about this over a hit. (Song)
