I urge you to go to your local parts chain store and buy a service manual for your year car. If you have to ask about someting like this, you really should have a manual handy.

Haynes is recommended for brakes

This repair procedure is covered very well in Chapter 9 of the Haynes repair manual. For brake work Haynes is the best book, even better than the factory service manual.

Please buy a copy of Haynes or borrow it from your public library. It has excellent photographs and the old saying is true, One Picture Is Worth A Thousand Words. Some car owners don't realize it but a manual is a tool, and is just as important as a jack or a set of wrenches.

I have a 96 I30 and the service manual. Would the Haynes manual for the maxima also benefit me? I would think so but just checking (aspiring DIY mechanic)

Yes. The I30 and Maxima are almost identical "under the skin".
