Well, my transaxle bearings are going out on me, going to need a rebuild. Then I got to thinking that just getting a whole tranny would be cheaper... and THEN I got to thinking, why not an I30 trans with the LSD? Anyone see any potential problems with this? My rebuild is going to cost $800, and after looking into it I don't know if it's something I should attempt myself. I'm pretty mechanically inclined but a trans rebuild is not something to sneeze at. What years were the LSDs offered in the I30, and is it only the I30t that has the LSD or what. What type of LSD is it and what percentage is the lockup (just curious.)? Thanks guys.

It is a viscous-type limited slip differential. I believe that all Canadian-market 4Gen Maximas have VLSD.

You didn't specify whether your Maxima has an automatic or 5-speed. When posting a technical question it is a good idea to provide complete information.

It's a 5 speed. I figured it would be visible in my sig, but I forgot that some people have signature viewing turned off.

Just a thought...It will be VERY hard to find an i30t with a 5 speed manual tranny at a junk yard. I would look into canadian maximas instead.
