Anybody know if it's possible to get clear 1156 and 1157 bulbs (meaning the glass on the bulb is clear) that emits an amber color?

Hello there,
It calls SILVERVISION and made by Philips, it is not 1156/1157 bulb but you can filed of one of the stud on the bottom like you might have done (maybe not) with the corner lights, you can check them out on Ebay(I think)or you can buy them at www.autolamps-online.com or www.fosmo.com

Somebody have "painted" the amber bulbs with a thin layer of silver paint, you can get it at Home Depot .... and they said it cheaper this way than you buy the Silvervision bulbs. Hope that I can help you here.

If you paint it what kind of paint is recommended? wouldn't the paint block the light from emitting through the paint?

I never did it for myself though, but I heard someone have done it,...... they used the HIGH TEMP. paint in Silver, they insert the bulbs' end into the beer bottle (they were drinking while working on this project), and painted them with a REAL thin coat (but thick enough to cover the amber color of the bulb.

That's all I have read from the BMW's owners board. Hope this could help you a little more. Good luck on your project.
