Today I installed the Cattman Y-pipe and the RT Catalytic converter. Now when I drive, I get this weird smell like something is burning. When the car is idle you can smell it. Can anyone help me out? It is a 95 Maxima.
The O2 sensors did not go on, so I did not bother resetting the ECU.
thanks

Hmm.. im not sure about the Cattman but when i installed my Stillen Y, there was a funny odor for about a day and it went away. I know its from the coating on it (Ceramic coated).

I think you're suppose to reset your ECU after installing a y-pipe because it has to adjust itself due to more airflow thru the exhaust.

I hope this smell goes away soon. SYNKI, I dont think the cattamn pipe has a ceramic coating on it. Its stainless steel. I am just keeping my fingers crossed.

i dont know if it applies, but i know someone who has one of those straight pipes instead of a cat, that thing still smells awful, hope its just the y-pipe and temporary, bc it could be the cat no fully burning all it needs to

good point, your cat might be overworked. since the new y-pipe removes 2 precats, the air is not filtered out as well.

Headers? did you get them shipped in from NZ?? i know there are no headers for the 4th gens right now. by the way that smell shouldn't be there, you need to replace all the O2 sensors!! hurry up your new cat is gonna get ruined.

FYI

The "cat" catalyzes a reaction which turns carbon monoxide into carbon dioxide, that's all. Carbon monoxide is odorless. Most metal parts have oil on them from machining, it burns off.

dmbmaxima88 , I recognized you're subtle sarcasm. The guy a couple posts before yours seemed a little more concerned. "filtered"??
