I was looking at a 2000 GXE (Wanting to spend under $17,000) and even though Dallas area dealerships advertise to have several of them starting at $15,995 yet when you arrive to the dealership they tell you they have not seen any 2000 Maxes and try to sell you a brand new one for 25k and over.

Anyway, I found an SE LImited for $15,574 with 24k miles, very good shape and drove well, 5 speed. Is this a reasonable price? I have mainly been looking at 2000's and know nothing of the limited's, like what the difference is from a 1999 SE? The price seemed very reasonable, no leather or Sunroof which is fine with me. They said the price is pretty firm as they have reduced it so much already, but have said nothing is wrong with it. I drove it and it was nice.

Just looking for opinions. I really wanted a 2000 GXE but this was a nice car for a price that was more within my limits... I will just have to stop hanging out at the 5th gen forum

Thanks
Alec

I think that's a very good price. Car has very little miles, if u compare that to blue book value, it's thousands less... If you are fine that it has no real options, then go for it.. ossuming it is in great mechanical condition..

The car drove great, the only thing that was lacking was my driving skills with a stick...

What is the difference between a Max SE and a SE limited? (Besides the "limited" badge on car)

I think the difference is the badge and the Bose system.

Not exactly... The SE and SE Limited are the same except the badge, titanium-painted rims, embossed SE logo on the seat, and SE-Limited floormats. Otherwise, the SE-L comes with accessories that are options on the SE (sunroof, premium stereo, etc...)

The only thing that makes the Limited worth more than a '99 SE is that it would be newer, maybe fewer miles, or might have more equipment than any particular '99SE you may look at. Nothing on the SE-L makes it automatically worth more than an SE.

Just make sure they don't try to tell you that the limited is any better, because it isn't.

I neglected to retrieve the VIN number but as far as I know the dealership will do that for me if I request it right?

They never tried to play off the limited badge, I asked the salesman and he didn't even know for sure.

Found a 1999 SE limited for sale on another site. Here is what it said:

SE Limited Package includes SE Limited floor mats, titanium-tinted gauges, 16" titanium-tinted alloy wheels, titanium-tinted exterior badging

So maybe that will help since no one else seemed to know what the limited was either
