Holy cow! Will the VQ30DET fit as a direct bolt on? I will be replacing my stock engine in a year or so, and 280/285 is calling my name.

Ask her if she can get the engine I said above. If she can, what will the price be? How long will I have to wait for it? Thanks

Keep in mind DBM is the "pro" in maintaining and repairing cars, not modifying them. In fact, have you EVER seen DBM reply to a post about a mod? The reason I am saying this is to ask that you respect his talents in maintenance. To me, asking him whether this will "drop in" or "this can be added" may be inappropriate. It's not that he cannot answer it, but rather that there are plenty of other people here who devote much more effort towards modding their cars than DBM does.

Don't know if anybody has told you (haven't read the whole thread) but this won't fit because it's a turboed version of the VQ30DE and there isn't enough room in our Max's for the extra piping, esp. not the stock piping since the firewall is pushed further back in the Cefiro. Any custom piping would be a waste, since you could do the same thing to our engines anyway. But I wonder what kind of cams and fuel system the vq30det has... Might be useful to get those part #s....

Good point my man...

We were discussing the merits of these types of mods the other day, Jeff92SE and I that is, and we mentioned the cams, etc., and one of the major concerns was the cost of custom grinds for the VQ30DE, such as Jim Wolf's. This may be a way to coerce more power from our VQ, without having to sell off our first born children. We should also check, if possible, (using we loosely of course because I have no access to this info at present) to see if there is any difference in the intakes, throttle bodies, etc., as i know this would be good for us, but even better for the turbo'd and SC'd guys.

Ahh, yes. Cams...

The max will definitely benefit from higher lift/longer duration cams. The stock camshaft profile is VERY conservative.

I've been asking JWT about their cams for over two years, and they always say they're "in development". I asked Brian Catts about JWT cams and he said that they're "in development", and that he was looking forward to offering them once they're available. However, someone's already prototyped a set of cams (custom, not JWT), with VERY interesting results. But I'll let him give the results, if he chooses to do so.

I've already taken the DET out of the car, and is sitting in a shop in PA. The motor was in my sig pic a while ago, and I'm currently dropping the motor into a 99 Q45 shell w/ the motor yanked out. Also the ECU harness must be changed for the one out of the CIMA. The tuning potential of the DET motor is phenomenol. The motor I currently have was in a 98 Cima in japan and the car had been hit from behind by an SW20 MR2 Turbo in a street race. The motor was undamaged as for cost. With the freight charges it came out to nearly $4500 just to import it. If you are thinking about the swap you would need to custom fabricate a firewall, and even change the requisite interior items that would get in the way if you cut the firewall.
I never really thought it would fit, even knowing as little as I do about it but seeing as you have one and obviously know what you're talking about, could the cams be used on a blown Max? Would this be beneficial? Thanks.
