Good Tires for stock wheels???
Kumhos are great tires.... also keep in mind a good touring tire... Yokohama Avids or something. dont go too low profile if you have stock ride height cuz it'llmake the gap bigger... check out www.tirerack.com and check out the evaluations and tests of tires... select a tire and see how it performs!
I just bought new tires two days ago. I went to Discount Tire. They have a brand that I made for them and it is the exact same tire as the Goodrich Comp T/A ZR rates. I love them. They handle awsome and if you aplly a little heat to them the hook up pretty good off the line. I got 225/55/16 and I love the way they look.i walked out for about $550. That is with the road hazard. Oh ya the are called PHANTOMS. You should check them out. I looked around for awhile and liked these the best. Good luck.
I just got a set of Kumho Ecsta 712 225/50ZR-16. I think they are really good for a touring tire and only $79 a tire. I got these because the treadwear rating is 280 so they should last for a while. If you want all out performance and not worry about wear, get the Yokohama AVS Intermediates. These are like sticky autocross tires for the street. The treadwear rating is like 140 but these only lasted on my prelude for 4 months!
I bought a set of Kumho Ecsta 712, 215/55R16 (stock size), ~3 weeks ago. Nice tires. Very smooth and quiet. You will feel the bump on the road more, which I think is because it has stiffer sidewall.
Cost me ~$440 total (include lifetime balance and rotation).
If you are willing to pay more, you can try RE730. After all, you have to get over the idea that Kumho is made in Korea.
BTW, mine is a '97 SE also.

if you don't need all-season ratings you might look at the dunlop sp sport 8000. for the 225/55-16 size, they were $107 each from tires.com. i like them a lot, and the slightly bigger size helps to fill in the ugly gap in the wheel well.

Ok, I think I have narrowed my choices down to the Kuhmo Ecsta 712's and Bridgestone RE950's. Which ones do you all recommend?? Both are rated pretty good, the Bridgestone ratings are a little higher but they are also a little more expensive.
Go for the Bridgestone RE950 if you want longer treadlife and don't race the car. It is a great tire. I had the predecessor, the RE930 and those were some of the best tires I've ever owned.
The Khumos would be good if you autocross, but keep in mind that a summer tire like the Khumo will wear out quickly, probably in around 25k miles, vs. over 40k miles for the Bridgestones.
