I have a 1995 Maxima! I was attempting to change my fuel filter yesterday The top hose and clamp came off pretty easy but the bottom one is a pain in the but. I ended up sticking the top one back on and leaving the old one in there. Is there any secret as to getting the bottom one out? can it be reached from underneath? Does the hose need to be lubed with something first?

If the hoses seem too hard to pull off, there still may be too much pressure in the lines. Crank your engine some more and retry pulling off the hoses.

If you're having trouble reaching the filter or the hoseclamp screws, try removing your front strut tower bar on one side if you have this mod. It's easy to put back anyway. Also consider dropping the fuel filter down the engine bay and accessing it from under the car (after the top hose has been removed). Note: if you pulled off the front strut tower bar, don't forget to put the nuts themselves back on, should you decide to put the car on jackstands.

Feul Filter change

Try this trick suggested by Steve Cutchen's MaxFAQ;

Remove the filter WITH the hoses. You do have to get the bottom hose from underneath. Move the hoses to the new filter and then put it back in.

FYI, you can use the 300ZX filter. It doesn't give any performance increase, but it does give about twice the capacity, so you can leave it alone for 30 K miles instead of 15K. That's what I did.

Does the dealer recommend using the 300xz filter? Just wondering, maybe only off the record.

Fuel Filter

I replaced mine recently and it is was a biatch. After about half an hour, I finally managed to get the top hose off. The bottom one was easier...what you have to do is remove the clip that attaches the bottom hose to another hose in that area. Then remove the filter from the bracket (with the bottom hose still attached) and turn it on its side. You should be able to reach stuff a lot easier this way (especially the screw for the clip attaching the hose to the filter).

I just did mine and the guy at the dealership gave me a good tip. Take the air box cover off and move it as much as you can. That way you can get your left arm down and in and get a good hold of the filter. Then you can use your right arm to pull like a *itch until it comes off. Try twisting it off too.

Nope. Not dealer recommended. I got the idea from here at forums.maxima. The filter is twice as wide as the Maxima one, and the clamp still holds it. It is also DW recommended, too

And bill99gxe recommended also..... I'm running the 300Z filter in the 99 also....

I have pics of all of this, but it got vaporized with zing.com shutting down. If someone wants to see them (300z filter size, airbox removed, etc), I should be able to e-mail them to ya in the next couple of days. And I'll add those into the Fuel Filter sticky as well....
