Destroyed a CL-S . . .literally . kindof
Early Saturady morning, around 3AM. Heading into manhattan from the bronx. I'm Heading to the entrance to the 3rd ave bridge, coming down Bruckner Blvd. I stop at a light at the underpass for the Willis Ave bridge, Mcd's to my right. Lo and behold, a Acura CL rolls up next to me. I roll down my passenger window and ask the guy, "Is that a CL type S?", he says yup. I'm like, "OK, let's go!" He's feeling cocky and replies "I don't know, I got 260 HP under the hood" I look at him and simply say "I know." The traffic light turns red for the opposing traffic (3 AM not much really). The entrance to the 3rd ave bridge is 2 lights straight ahead of us with no cars. I rev my car to 2500-3000 grand. The light turns green and I dump the clutch. I get a little too much wheel spin and have to back off of the accelerator for a moment. We are off! 1st gear, dead even, 2nd gear, dead even. I think at this time he's thinking he should have left me a long time ago. So he does this thing with his shifter, His car seems to downshift, but only for like half a second, I think he downshifted 2nd, and the auto just shifted it right back to 3rd gear. So, 3rd gear we're still even. At this time we are doing 80 mph and fast approaching the on ramp for the bridge. This is one tough on-ramp. 2 lanes, very bumpy (hey, NYC roads, need I say more?)The top of the ramp is a very sharp left turn for both lanes, and *NO* room for error. So, I'm in the left lane, and he's in the right. We're both still with each other but his front bumper is a little in front of mine as I get cautious. I back off because we are coming into this on-ramp **very hot.** I don't let myself get crazy. He continues. I guess he *had* to win, didn't want his brand new CL-S to lose to a previous gen maxima. So, he goes and I watch him. He ain't gonna make it. He goes up the top of the ramp and makes the sharp left, or so it seems. His exit was horrible. He had gone too far left and we fast approaching the left stone barrier. He compensated, but now had gone too far right, now going for the right stone barrier. He tried going left but didn't quite make it. His right front bumper hit the stone wall at what seemd like 20 mph. The stone wall just threw his car away like it was nuthin.' He bounced off the wall and was finally going straight, too late of course. He came to a stop and put on his hazards. I pulled up behind him and put on my hazards. I walk up to his car and see that he's alright. A little shaken. I offer my sympathy for all the damage done and hope he's OK. He's alright and tells me that he shouldn't have run into me that night. As I talk to him, a Ford Expedition pulls up. It seems these guys in the Ford are car wreck guys, they get out and talk to him, start to get down to business. Man, the car is still warm and these guys are ready to take parts!! After a few minutes I say goodbye and wish him well. I look at the damage to his car, both airbags still smoking from deployment (Ouch $5000 right there) His right front bumper was compressed to just behind the headlight. Not too bad, but his right front wheel looked nasty. It was sitting at an angle that made the car look bow legged, if you know what I mean. That looked expensive.
Thought I'd share this little event with you guys.

I'm sorry to hear someone ruined one of their new valuables just for a burst of adrenaline. He asked for it, I guess. Personally if I push my car, I prefer to do it by myself, with an open, visible road (daytime only). I get the same adrenaline rush as when I used to street race. I know accidents happen at all times, racing or not, but when the speeds get up there, there is undoubtedly a greater risk for an accident to occur.
*shrug*...the ups received from street racing just don't add up to the downs imo. I've personally adjusted in that I don't feel the need to prove myself to anyone - the driving experience is for me (and my passengers I guess
)
and thus, it's a little bit safer in my eye to push it on a wide-open road when visibility is at its peak. Not completely safe, but neither is breathing the air anymore.
Not trying to be an anti-street racing flamer, but if you really love the car and not the speed, why endanger it so?
And if you really love the speed, why not build up a beatup G-body or something to take to the track that will blow the strip up?

Risk and thrill go hand in hand. The more risky something is, the more exciting. What can I say, the thrill took me at the time. Some people bet $1000 in Atlantic city, others throw their money into a penny stock hoping for the big payoff. That's life. We choose our own risks. I don't go out of my way to street race, but if an opportunity presents itself, I just might take it, like I did this one. Also, what made it even more interesting is that on paper, and the specs I've read about, me and the CL-S we're going to be well matched. Racing on an open hiway is fun, but its not extreme fun untill you can get to speeds above 120
Accidents do happen, and we can't avoid all of them. This one happened simply because of one thing, the driver. You can probably reduce the number of accidents by half by changing the driver's attitude/knowledge. Our society concentrates so much on the outside, ABS, SUVs, airbags, crumple zones etc. Training the driver better will probably do way more to reduce accidents than all these devices combined. Do we do it? Nope. I could go on and on.

Yea, it's hard to draw a line on what's "wrong" and "right" in this case...I think it comes down to the personal individual drawing the line for themself. (Well, that and, realizing that the authorities have drawn lines, and that you're stepping over them, but to me, the law is far from a code of ethics that I live life by)
I just try to make sure if I plan on pushing my car hard on that rare open-during-the-daytime road, that if anything manages to happen that causes an accident, I don't get anyone else (like surrounding motorists) into the mix. That's the only time I really harp against street racing - when innocent bystanders/motorists get involved.

There's no destroying Acura CL-Types S's in a 5 speed Max. In fact, on a track, both are similar in performance. No walks in this race at all! I ran against one at Maxus and they run like a bastard.
That's why I said kindof
I figured he would beat me anyway, but only by a little. I like making him work hard for that win, and boy did he
He wasn't prepared for me to be that much competition.

I will tell you that theblue(Aaron) is pretty damn close to them with his car though. I think he could've beaten the CL I raced. The guy with the CL thought I was quick for a stock auto and I was like "Your kidding right?" Cheston thought the same thing too. I don't believe them though.

Do you know what?...there is a defference between Maxima drivers and Ricers. I know if this was a ricer forum, there would be so much flaming and bashing. Great insights from everyone. Thats all i wanted to say...

i had the same incident Feb 14th 2000 .. i was heading to my gf's house in my 95 5spd Max and this guy in a 99 5spd Black Accord wanted to play.. we ran through I-84 in hartford and as soon as he passes me .. he pushes it too much around a corner.. hits one stone wall barrier and spins around again hits the other he had both air bags deployed and front and rear were smashed.... i jammed on my brakes and i ran into him.. not much to deploy my airbags.. but enough to break my clear corners and side lamp..
i asked him if he was ok.. and he said yeah.. i asked him if he wanted me to hang around and he said no.. well basically when the cops came it wouldn't look like street racing.. so i backed up and left.. everyone who passed us kept calling us *******s
