Y-Pipe: Do It Yourself???
#1
Hey people,
Just got my Stillen Y-Pipe... and was wondering if it was worth installing myself or better to go to a mechanic and have it done? I kinda enjoy the sense of accomplishment of doing my own stuff, but if this is over my head, I won't hesitate to have a mechanic do it.
If I do it myself, any special tools or know-how that I might need? I've read stories about fitment problems, so if I run into anything like that, I'll revert back to the stock, and take it to a mechanic.
As for mechanic install, can anyone recommend a good mechanic in the Queens/LI area, that's not gonna cost me alot?
Thanks guys...
VinW

Yes you can do it yourself.
go to www.maximadriver.com and go to the how to section and they have the installation steps there. Good luck

Soak the bolts with liquid wrench or wd-40 and bang them, then give them about an hour to work through. You will need extensions.
There is one bolt that is a Pain in the *** to reach, seems almost impossible.
I didn't remove my stock Y-pipe, but I've had my WS pipe off and on multiple times since. But the stock pipe is much harder to remove cause the precats are in the way of the bolts. I had mine done for $65.
If you can't get that one tricky bolt off, maybe a shop will remove that one bolt for you, and then you can do the rest.... just an idea.
