I am having my springs professionally installed. They are charging me $200 for the install plus $60 for the alignment. Believe it or not, the mechanic that is doing it has a 1997 Max SE. Does the price sound about right? Too high?

i think you can find places that do both things for 200 but i guess this price is not too bad.

install and alignment

Should be able to get both done for less than $200 professionally, but I recommend doing it yourself. Just need a get a couple jackstands and a spring compressor. Save yourself a lotta money. And all u gotta go is pay like $50 or less for an alignment. goodyear is a good place for an alignment.

Re: install and alignment

It should cost 2 hrs of labor and around 60-80 for an alignment. It all depends on where you go.

I would intall myself... but #1, I don't have the time... #2, I want it professionally installed. I do not want something going wrong during the install nor do I want something going wrong down the line because something wasn't installed correctly... the people I am taking to is Goodyear and both I and the company I work for have trusted thier vehicles to this one shop for over 5 years now and they have always backed up the work they have done.

Do not do the alignment right away, let the springs settle if not your wasting your money. $60.00 is good for the alignment front only, you cant align the rear no such thing for a maxima. If you are installing Eibachs or intrax you wont need alignment done right away. Eibachs barely lowers the car waste of cash and a nasty gap in front of the vehicle. You can install them yourself is not hard at all, its all on how bad you want to save and use that money to purchase something else for your vehicle.
Also $175.00 is the price for the installation for springs $200.00 is a bit too much not for such simple job, $100 is about right for installation only.

Garage SPL here in Seattle is doing my shocks and springs for $140...I think that's reasonable.

But get this -

I was working on my Max and accidentally unbolted the wrong bolt, thereby releasing all the freon out of my car. I had to work, so I took it to the only shop close to my work in Downtown Seattle. This was a local Midas Mufflers.

Midas charged me $189.00 to replace the bolt seal and refill the freon.....seemed more than a little steep.

Then, as I was there, I asked them how much to install springs and shocks on my car if I provided the parts?

He wanted $600.00!!!!!!

Anyone who lives in Seattle, DON'T go to the Midas on 7th and Denny....they are total rip-off artists.

They tried to mess with me awhile back on my Camaro I used to have also, and tried to charge me $800 for a simple brake job because they said my brakes were completely shot....they, of course, were fine, except the pads that needed replacement and the rotors resurfacing....regular stuff.

Man...I get mad just thinking about them....

Sorry about the random post.

I had springs-only install at Racing Concept in Lynnwood, WA done like two years ago, I believe it was $40 or $60. Definitely a good deal, but it took a while for me to get it installed cuz their spring compressor was broken at the time. I don't imagine it would cost too much more if you had shocks done at the same time.

A midas near me, wanted me to drop off my car and they stated it would take up to 8-10 hours to complete a spring and shock install. They estimated a price of $200 but they also stated that they were going to half to charge by the hour. None of it made sense to me so i did it myself.

well, this was like two years ago or something, and I got the springs from them too for like $210 or $220, I forget now that it was so long ago, but yeah, it wasn't that much for spring install at Racing Concept. I heard they changed owners in the past two years, so I dunno, maybe different now. Heh, you Asian? That could be it... :P
